Position summary:

We are currently seeking a Market Fundamental Analyst to join our Carbon/Biofuels trading team.

Embedded within our trading teams our Market Fundamental Analysts are responsible for maintaining a forward-looking commodity market outlook, using data, tools and models, and communicating this view clearly and concisely to drive decision-making and identify new trade ideas to grow trading earnings.

We are looking for an individual who is highly-motivated, a team player, enjoys the challenge of finding commercial value from disparate sources of data; an effective communicator with an eye for innovation, a curiosity around data, and an appetite for continuous process and personal improvement.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Communicating your short-term (0-12 months) view of carbon, biofuels, gas, power (and adjacent markets) through:

  • developing and maintaining live forward-looking data-driven supply and demand balances.

  • building, backtesting and continuously improving data-driven models.

  • effectively communicating detailed market analysis to local and global teams.

  • analysis of internal & third-party reports and data, price structures and other market intel.

  • working collaboratively as part of global trading teams and with other S&T analysts in London, Houston and Singapore offices to understand the wider energy market.

  • Contributing trade ideas to grow trading earnings, supported by your view and modelling of carbon, biofuel and gas/power markets.

  • Developing a network of external market contacts to enhance market intelligence.

    Requirements for the role:

  • Minimum 3 years professional experience directly relevant to carbon markets (UK/European carbon, biofuels and/or European gas or power markets) with an understanding of UK & European compliance and voluntary carbon markets, Emissions Trading Schemes (ETS) in EU and UK, legislation, pricing and balancing mechanisms.

  • Able to communicate detailed analysis into a data story with a view of market/price action.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and an ability to manipulate and make sense of a wide range of data using statistical tools, regression, etc.

  • Highly proficient in Excel / Power Query, visualisation tools (Power BI preferred). Coding skills are beneficial (python, SQL).

  • Ability to work in a diverse, high-pressure and fast-paced environment with very short deadlines.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills – able to clearly and concisely present your views and opinions.

    Relocation Options:

    Relocation will not be considered within Chevron parameters. International Considerations: Expatriate assignments may be considered.
