Position Summary

The Pathways Advisor will function as a Pathway Advisor for the following pathways: Health Sciences and Law/Public Safety/Corrections and Security at the Division of Career and Technical Education (DCTE). This Pathway Advisor will work with 1) DCTE Pathway Advisors in other departments in the agency, particularly with relation to CTE programs of study to their respective Career and Technical Student Organization

(CTSO) 2) School administrators, CTE coordinators, and teachers in developing, implementing, and maintaining courses in assigned pathways and Programs of Study. 3) Business and industry partners as a part of the advisory councils to develop industry- relevance to assigned pathways. The Pathway Advisor will also serve in the official role of State Advisor for HOSA Future Health Professionals CTSO.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities will include:

  1. Frequent in-state and some out-of-state travel will be required as assigned.

  2. Overnight travel throughout the year is necessary to provide teacher training, technical assistance, program evaluation, and to attend student competitions, state, and national conferences as assigned, which can be extensive during peak work periods.

  3. As HOSA State Advisor provide support for the HOSA student organization as assigned to include:

● professionally represent DCTE at all conferences,

● be a part of a team approach method for upcoming meetings, competitions and conferences as assigned by the Program Coordinator,

● collaborate with fellow staff to ensure the success of HOSA initiatives with behind the scene preparation,

● model exceptional customer service/guest relations in all situations, and

● give support and help wherever needed while exhibiting flexibility and pleasantries.

  1. The Pathway Advisor must:

● demonstrate initiative as a self-starter,

● be analytically astute,

● be professional and have exceptional customer service attributes,

● exercise responsible discretion and judgment, andbe highly motivated to achieve performance expectations with minimal supervision competently.

  1. Attention to detail is critical, as the Pathway Advisor will:

● review program of study approvals

● analyze, evaluate, and update course standards as needed

● stay updated on current trends and research-based information to implement where needed

● teacher licensure application consultations and review if needed

● review state start-up grants and Perkins’ funding proposals

  1. The Pathway Advisor must perform detailed tasks, and achieve results as assigned with minimal supervision as directed in:

● reviewing program of study approvals

● office organization and program resources

● Review state start-up grants and Perkins’ funding proposals

  1. Strong writing and verbal communication skills, collaboration, and presentation skills, including writing educational standards and objectives and other related documents, are essential.

    1. Extensive knowledge of assigned pathways is essential.

    2. Management and organizational skills are required, with attention to detail.

    3. Proficient application of Microsoft Office.

    Education

Formal education equivalent of a Bachelor Degree

A valid (unexpired) teaching license is required for the Pathway Advisor Position. Professional work experience as a classroom teacher is preferred.

Summary

The Arkansas Career Education (ACE) Program Advisor is responsible for assisting in the development and evaluation of educational programs administered by the Arkansas Department of Career Education throughout the state of Arkansas. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Functions

Monitors budget amendments and expenditure reports of programs, approves/disapproves expenditures; reviews program specific information submitted in the data information systems for program approval. Writes comprehensive reports interpreting and applying federal and state regulations; analyzes end of the year data, and develops analysis reports on areas of concentration for in-service activities. Provides funding grant comments on applications and reviews new program start up grant information; reviews federal and state budgets, project applications, and program grants. Provides technical assistance to programs by interpreting regulations, answering questions, and resolving problems. Evaluates program effectiveness through on-site visits, program reviews, and desk audits to ensure program compliance. Advises local program administration personnel of violations, recommendations, and commendations. Coordinates and conducts education and training improvements to comply with federal and state regulations. Conducts workshops during local meetings and professional conferences. Reviews status and accountability reports for programs. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of federal and state laws regarding licensure within the field of education. Knowledge of educational program development and presentation techniques. Knowledge of teaching principles and methods. Ability to interpret and apply, applicable portions of federal and state regulations governing educational programs. Ability to research, generate, simulate, modify, and conduct educational programs. Ability to prepare, categorize, and document reports. Ability to evaluate applications and their supporting documentation. Ability to prepare present information to various groups orally and in writing.

Minimum Qualifications

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree in education, business administration, a field directly related to the assigned program area, or a related field; plus four years of experience in the field of education or a related field. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
