Morrison County Assistant County Attorney in Little Falls, Minnesota

ASSISTANT COUNTY ATTORNEY I: Salary Range: $36.93-$50.54 per hour POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant County Attorney I, provides legal advice for the County. The position is appointed by the County Attorney. The incumbent must prosecute criminal cases, both adult and juvenile; enforce child support and protection laws; and advise County officials and officers. PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES: A. Prosecute adults and juveniles who violate State or County law to enhance the safety of the community. Reviews law enforcement reports, determine appropriate charges, and draft complaints. Negotiates fair and consistent plea agreements. Identifies and prepares witnesses and exhibits. Presents evidence in an effective and legal manner. Argues cases persuasively to judge or jury. Informs victims and witnesses of their rights and obligations. Researches legal issues to advise law enforcement and to prepare legal memorandum. B. Advise County officials, in person or in writing, about legal issues to protect the County from liability. Reviews and suggests policies and procedures which conform to legal requirements. Interprets laws and court decisions and determine their applicability to County decisions. Drafts and/or reviews County ordinances. C. Advises and represents the County Social Service agency to ensure protection of the vulnerable members of society and a fair distribution of benefits. Reviews drafts and prosecutes child support and paternity cases. Reviews drafts and prosecutes mental illness, mental deficiency, and inebriacy cases. Assists with financial eligibility cases. D. Performs other job duties and projects in accordance with Morrison County policies and procedures, as directed by the County Attorney. Provides work direction to the Victim-Witness Coordinator and Child Support Assistant. Attends and participates in workshops, seminars, in-service training, etc., as approved. Follows established safety and infection control policies, and procedures, and participates in all required in-service training regarding fire safety, disaster preparedness, infection control, and safety regulations. Maintains work areas in a sanitary and safe manner, and follows departmental dress code. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is generally performed in a normal office environment where there is no physical discomfort due to temperature, dust, noise, and the like. However, the incumbent is subject to the following: frequent interruptions, 24 hour call, inability to control schedule, hostile adversaries and court deadlines. ASSISTANT COUNTY ATTORNEY II: Salary Range: $43.20-$59.12 per hour POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant County Attorney II provides legal advice for the County. The position is appointed by the County Attorney. The incumbent will primarily prosecute felony cases and advise County officials and officers. The incumbent must prosecute criminal cases, both adult and juvenile; enforce child support and protection laws; and advise County officials and officers. PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES: A. Prosecute adults and juveniles who violate State or County law to enhance the safety of the community. Reviews law enforcement reports, determines appropriate charges, and draft complaints. Negotiates fair and consistent plea agreements. Identifies and prepares witnesses and exhibits for trial. Presents evidence in an effective and legal manner. Argues cases persuasively to judge or jury. Informs victims and witnesses of their rights and obligations. Researches legal issues to advise law enforcement and to prepare legal memorandum. B. Advise County officials, in person or in writing, about legal issues to protect the County from liability. Reviews and suggests policies and procedures which conform to legal requirements. Represents the County in tax appeal litigation. C. Advises and repr sents the County Social Service agency to ensure protection of the vulnerable members of society and a fair distribution of benefits. Reviews, drafts and prosecutes child support and paternity cases. Reviews, drafts and prosecutes mental illness, mental retardation, and chemical dependency cases. Assists with financial eligibility cases. D. Performs other job duties and projects in accordance with Morrison County policies and procedures, as directed by the County Attorney. Provides work direction to the Victim-Witness Coordinator and Child Support Assistant, and manages the activities of the department in absence of the County Attorney. Attends and participates in workshops, seminars, in-service training, etc., as approved. Follows established safety and infection control policies and procedures, and participates in all required in-service training regarding fire safety, disaster preparedness, infection control, and safety regulations.
