Actalent Technical Writer (Active Secret Clearance) in Linthicum Heights, Maryland

Job Title: Technical Writer (Active Secret Clearance)Job Description

Our client is seeking Technical Writers to join a high-performing team responsible for developing technical documentation for advanced military systems. These systems include radars for F-22, F-35, Joint Strike Fighter, F-16, B-1B, AWACS, MESA, G/ATOR, and the STARLite, VADER, and other UAV systems.

Responsibilities

  • Write, rewrite, and edit technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications.

  • Oversee the preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, and diagrams.

  • Conduct quality reviews of materials.

  • Publish materials in various formats, including page-based, electronic (basic and interactive), and structured (HTML, XML, and SGML).

  • Collaborate with task leads, writers, engineers, and instructors to develop and deliver sensor/system technical manuals with varying levels of detail and delivery formats.

  • Perform Desktop Publishing tasks for program/project reports, whitepapers, articles, and other documents.

  • Research and compile information from program documents and engineering sources to develop manual outlines adhering to military/civilian specifications and standards of technical writing.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM discipline or related field, or military operations and maintenance experience with radar, communications, electro-optics, networks, and information technology-based sensors/systems.

  • Expert knowledge of MS Office Products.

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience with structured authoring applications such as MadCap, FrameMaker, or Arbortext.

  • Proven ability to manage several tasks simultaneously.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Possess and maintain Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Clearance.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Proactive, self-motivated, and excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years’ technical writing experience.

  • Knowledge of standard content management strategies.

  • Knowledge of Simplified Technical English (ASD-STE 100).

  • Knowledge of standards – XML, SGML, HTML, S1000 – for structured content.

  • Possess and maintain DoD Top Secret Clearance.

Work Environment

Our client has a large, cleared manufacturing facility in Linthicum, MD. This group is known as Technical Data & Training and reports up through SEIT.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $65.00/hr.
