Child & Family Service Family Specialist I - Kauai Comprehensive Counseling Support Services (Full-Time) in Lihue, Hawaii

SUMMARY OF DUTIES

Provides short-term outreach and home visiting services to families who are referred by Child Protective Services (CPS). Engages families in services. Conducts intake/assessment with participants. Engages participants in development of service plan and goals. Teaches and provides information on a wide variety of topics, including child development, stress management, parenting, nurturing and family life as indicated by participant needs. Provides linkage to community resources. Assists families, through advocacy or concrete help, to negotiate systems to receive needed services. Provides transportation to medical, legal and social service appointments as needed and after consultation with supervisor. Ensures that the referring CPS Social Worker is aware of families who cannot be located or who refuse services. Performs administrative tasks related to caseload such as progress notes, service plans, mileage and miscellaneous reports in a timely manner. Maintains participant confidentiality at all times.


EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

  • Four-Year College Degree from a school accredited by a recognized accrediting agency - general major. Requires basic knowledge or training in a specialized or technical field or trade, such as social work, professional accounting, finance, business administration, and marketing.

EXPERIENCE

  • Over two years, up to and including four years.

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Knowledge of child growth, development and behavior. Knowledge of positive parenting practices. Knowledge of case management and advocacy practices and techniques. Good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work with families of diverse ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required. Valid driver's license, current no-fault insurance coverage, satisfactory driver's abstract, access to an insured vehicle.

OTHER POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • This job requires a valid Hawaii driver's license and a clear driver's abstract and continued employment may be contingent on maintaining a clear driver's abstract.

  • This position is subject to a criminal background investigation and continued employment is contingent on a record clear of

  • Continued employment in this position is contingent on successful completion of CPR, CPI and/or van driving training as such training is necessary to ensure ability/continued ability to perform essential functions of this job.
  • Continued employment in this position is contingent on successful completion of CPI classes OR other Behavioral Management certification as may be contract-mandated.
  • Continued employment in this position is contingent on successful completion of First Aid classes.
