FERGUS COUNTY Short Term Grounds & Buildings Custodian in LEWISTOWN, Montana

Short Term Position

WAGE: $16.50/hr

The Grounds and Buildings Custodian is responsible for providing grounds maintenance and custodial services at the assigned area within the County to ensure that the grounds and buildings are attractive and safe by performing a variety of grounds maintenance and custodial operations effectively.

DUTIES:

Work and maintain indoor and outdoor areas

Maintain lawn areas with landscaping equipment

Perform routine and non-routine janitorial activities in all County facilities

Perform seasonal maintenance tasks on parking lots, driveways, and walkways to ensure grounds are safe and accessible to other County staff and members of the public such as: removing snow and ice, leaf removal and landscaping duties

Performing a variety of preventative maintenance to ensure equipment/machinery performs optimally and minimize down time.

Inspect equipment, structures, or material to identify areas that are in need of repair, maintenance, or to be replaced

Operate County vehicles and equipment to transport material to and from job sites safely and effectively according to laws and department procedures. This includes collecting and delivering supplies/equipment, transporting trash, brush, clippings and recyclables to County facilities, and related tasks.

Assist with preparing for activities the public attend by preparing activity areas; providing appropriate signage; provide set-up assistance and support for events

Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

The job requires education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or GED and one (1) year of grounds and equipment maintenance experience. Equivalencies include no diploma with three (3) years of directly related experience as a groundskeeper for a cemetery, park, fairgrounds, government buildings or similarly situated sites.

Knowledge or the ability to learn the proper methods, techniques, materials, tools and equipment used in modern ground and facilities maintenance and cleaning

Effectively use hand and power tools common to landscape and facilities maintenance

Operate and maintain maintenance equipment

Work independently and prioritize and manage multiple tasks

Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing

Establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to lift and move various items weighing up to 70 lbs

Frequently required to climb on ladders and walk over uneven terrain to operate grounds equipment and remove trash, clippings snow, etc.

Required to squat, stoop, and kneel to operate and repair equipment.

Works outside in varying weather conditions and in areas with loud noise.

Exposure to equipment where risks exist of getting burned, bruised or scraped and to environmental allergens such as grass, weeds, and pollens.

Contact with oil and petroleum products. Exposure to solvents, pesticides, and herbicides. Exposure to gases and fumes.
