This is an Other Personnel Services (OPS) temporary position

Your Specific Responsibilities:

  • Travel to Citrus County Public Schools and childcare centers with portable dental equipment and provide oral health assessment, oral hygiene instruction and apply sealants and fluoride to eligible students.

  • Perform all oral health procedures within the scope of a Registered Dental Hygienist.

  • Transport, set up and break down portable equipment. Lifting to 50 pounds.

  • Assist with preparing orders and inventory control for the program.

  • Assist with identifying and scheduling opportunities to provide oral health services withing the parameters of the school-based sealant program.

  • Enter services into electronic medical record system. Utilizing dental record software.

  • Take intra-oral photographs for use in tele dentistry.

  • Attends and participates in mandatory training and meetings including staff development and continuing education trainings.

  • Assist in communication with parents/guardians.

  • Assist in care coordination and linkage to restorative dental services based on students’ insurance coverage.

  • Responsible for preparing dental instruments for sterilization and sterilizing instruments.

  • Provide education to community agencies and the public through community events and health fairs.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices used to perform procedures as a licensed dental hygienist.

  • Knowledge of public health principles, practices, and interventions.

  • Skilled in the use of electronic oral software.

  • Ability to educate others in preventative dental techniques.

  • Ability to manage time and communicate effectively to team members and maintain 100% confidentiality.

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to plan and evaluate services provided.

  • Ability to teach and demonstrate preventative health care and basic health care.

  • Knowledge of community resources.

  • Skilled in use of dental software

  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision.

  • Knowledge of sterilizations procedures and practices.

  • Ability to lift approximately 50 pounds to move potable dental service delivery equipment.

    Qualifications:

    Minimum -

  • Requires a clear and active license to practice as a dental hygienist in accordance with Chapter 466, Florida Statutes.

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Florida Department of Health is required to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an

emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs shelter or performing other emergency duties

including but not limited to, response to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster man-made or natural.

Preferred -

  • Current CPR certification

  • Experience using Dental Software

  • 1 year experience working with children.

  • Bilingual

  • Previous Florida Department of Health experience

  • Experience working with Florida Medicaid programs.
