Lilly Medical Officer Assistant Chief in Lebanon, Indiana

Lilly is currently constructing an advanced manufacturing facility for production of API molecules located in Lebanon, IN (Lilly Lebanon API) . This facility is Lilly’s largest investment in manufacturing capacity and is intended to provide APIs for current and future products, including new modalities. This is a unique opportunity to be a part of the startup team for the greenfield manufacturing site, and the successful candidate will help to build the programs and business processes to enable a successful startup into GMP manufacturing operations.

Main Purpose and Objectives of Position:

The Assistant Chief/ Medical Officer – HSE Fire and Rescue is part of the Lilly Lebanon API Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) team and has responsibility to lead/coordinate the on-site emergency response team as an Incident Commander and Medical Officer. The Assistant Chief / Medical Officer will be part of the command staff and the shift floater. The position also interacts with the Lilly Medical Director, Employee Health Services (EHS), security, fire safety systems, local building staff/management teams, and outside agencies. This role is responsible for responding to emergency and special events, as well as managing the site’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program, fire safety programs, and supporting departmental and site projects, as needed.

In the project delivery and startup phases (startup expected 2025 to 2027), this role will be fluid and dynamic as we endeavor to support the project delivery, build a new organization, develop and implement the necessary systems and business processes required to support GMP operations, and build the site culture. This will require significant collaboration, creativity and resilience as the site grows to full scale GMP manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities for this role include:

  • Support and execution of the on-site emergency preparedness and response plan.

  • Serve as on-shift lead officer.

  • Inspect and maintain departmental EMS equipment, EMS supplies, departmental equipment, supplies, and facilities to ensure response readiness.

  • Monitor activities to ensure conduct and performance conform to departmental standards.

  • Respond to all site fire, hazmat, and medical emergencies and assume command in the absence of superior officer.

  • Participate in the operation of departmental in-service training.

  • Prepare a variety of reports and records.

Basic Required Qualifications :

  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a high volume, high acuity EMS setting

  • Minimum of three(3) years’ incident command fireground experience

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Training/certifications: Indiana Firefighter I/II, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B or higher), Hazardous Materials Technician, Fire Inspector I/II, Fire Officer Strategy and Tactics.

  • Certified CPR instructor.

  • Must hold and maintain a clean driving record.

Conditional :

  • This position will be contingent upon successful completion of:

  • Physical Exam administered by Lilly Employee Health Services (based on NFPA 1582).

  • Stress Test.

  • Provide valid CPAT from a licensedCPAT testing facility that has been completed prior to and dated within 6 months of the start date.

Additional Skills/ Preferences

  • EMS experience in fire and rescue / emergency response in a manufacturing setting highly preferred.

  • Paramedic certification preferred.

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) instructor.

  • Incident Command training (NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800)

  • Emergency Vehicle Operator Certification (EVOC)

  • Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to instill teamwork within the department, and promote a cross-functional, collaborative work environment.

Additional Information

  • This position supports a 24/7/365 operation and will be Monday through Friday but will require periods of shift work of 24 hours on and 48 hours off to assist with departmental coverage.

  • Persons in this position will respond to incidents whose hazards are not yet known.

  • Persons may be exposed to biological hazards as a result of EMS and hazardous materials response.

  • Fire/Chemical response is immediately dangerous to life/health (IDLH) atmospheres is a possibility.

  • Will require successful completion of annual Work Performance Evaluation.
