Veterinary Technician – Combined Ophthalmology & Emergency position at Bulger Veterinary Hospital

Compensation:

  • $22 - $28 pending skills assessment leveling

  • Even higher for VTS!!!

    Anticipated Schedule:

  • Four 9-10 hour shifts

  • 3 shifts in Ophthalmology

  • 1 shift in ER/ICU

  • Up to 3 holidays

    Position Overview:

    As a Veterinary Technician, you will split your time between Ophthalmology and Emergency Medicine, providing comprehensive care and support to our patients.

    Emergency and Critical Care Technician Responsibilities:

  • Triage and manage incoming patients and clients.

  • Assist DVMs with patient assessment, diagnostics, treatments, and procedures.

  • Perform anesthetic monitoring, including intubation/extubation, vital monitoring, and machine troubleshooting.

  • Obtain and process laboratory samples (blood, urine, free fluid, fine needle aspirates).

  • Utilize various imaging modalities for patient assessment.

    Ophthalmology Technician Responsibilities:

  • Assist with consultations and exams in the exam room.

  • Take patient history, perform initial assessments, and notify the doctor of any irregularities.

  • Conduct tonometry, fluorescein staining, and patient dilation.

  • Document patient information during exams.

  • Explain treatment plans, medications, and procedures to clients.

  • Assist with ophthalmologic procedures and surgical recovery.

  • Maintain and operate specialized ophthalmic equipment.

  • Communicate with treatment technicians about the care of hospitalized patients.

  • Ensure cleanliness and maintain equipment and stock in ophthalmology exam rooms.

  • Follow up with clients and perform additional duties as needed.

    About You:

  • You are a confident, skilled, veterinary assistant dedicated to outstanding client service and excellent patient care. Minimum of 2 years experience is preferred.

  • Strong background in anesthetic monitoring is highly desirable.
