Description:
Responsible for the collection of blood samples from inpatients and the timely delivery of those specimens to the appropriate technical areas for analysis. Position requires an experienced, highly-skilled, pleasant technician who can work with a minimum of supervision.
Schedule: Per Diem/Pool. Weekend hours 3p-11:30p and evenings to cover shift vacancies as needed to avoid OT.
Properly identifies patients by verbal confirmation and positive identification system.
Properly identifies the inpatients using the hospital identification wristband and scanner
Properly identifies and labels patient's specimens for Blood Bank testing using the positive patient identification system.
Properly identifies patients and adequately performs venipunctures and/or skin punctures.
Uses appropriate aseptic technique to draw blood cultures
Clearly and accurately labels all specimens immediately after venipuncture and completes necessary documentation
Evaluates specimen adequacyReceives specimens in the computer and delivers them to the appropriate department
Monitors inventory levels and follows appropriate protocol for re-ordering supplies
Deletes or cancels orders as necessary with full documentation of reason and colleague they spoke with.
Collates requests, answers the telephone, delivers specimens to appropriate department and operates the pneumatic tubeAlways demonstrates proper telephone etiquette
Consistently assumes responsibility for calls, correctly answers questions, directs inquiries and takes messages
Adapts work schedule to meet emergency staffing needsIs responsive, courteous, respectful and cooperative in completing tasks
Collects TIMED and STAT tests within designated time period
Maintains supplies, carts, workstations in a neat, clean and orderly manner
Performs other related duties as required
Qualifications :
High School Diploma/Equivalent required
Phlebotomy Certification preferred
