LAME DEER PUBLIC SCHOOLS DISTRICT #6JOB DESCRIPTION BUS MONITOR QUALIFICATIONS:Completed district employment applicationMust pass a background checkHigh School Diploma or GEDCPR/First Aid Certificate required, must obtain within 6 monthsTo perform this job successfully, an employee must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorilyPrevious experience working with students and with special needs students preferredSpecial knowledge, skills and abilities in reading and comprehending simple instructionsApplying common sense in carrying out detailed instructions; dealing with problems involving unusual student behaviorAbility to communicate clearly and conciselyMust be able to successfully complete performance responsibilities listed belowAny other qualifications as the School Board may find appropriate and/or acceptable REPORTS TO: Transportation Director TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 8 hours per day, 10 months. Hourly rate established by classified employee wage matrix. EVALUATION: To be performed in accordance with School Board Policy. JOB GOAL: Assist school bus driver in maintaining discipline while bus is in operation; maintain proper records and documentation; assist student loading, unloading and seating arrangements as required. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: (may include but not limited to the following):Assist the bus driver in maintaining discipline on school bus; monitor and assist students while bus is in operationConsult with and assist bus driver in documentation of student information, record-keeping and completing route surveysAssist driver in assuring seat belts, harnesses and wheel chair clamps are secured as requiredAssist parents and school personnel with safe loading and unloading of students; coordinate seating of pre-kindergarten students as required by State Transportation GuidelinesCommunicate with classroom aides, teachers, principals, and parents concerning student background, medical problems and behavior as appropriateMaintain current knowledge of Emergency Evacuation proceduresAssist handicapped children on and off the bus and escort children across street upon return home; lift children as required; assure responsible adult meets students leaving the busAttend in-service meetings and training courses as assignedMaintain regular attendanceOther duties assigned KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF:Safe practices concerning school bus transportationBasic record-keeping techniquesHealth and safety regulations ABILITY TO:Maintain proper records and documentationAssist student loading, unloading and seating arrangements as requiredUnderstand and relate to children with special needsEstablish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with othersCommunicate effectively both orally and in writingLift students according to established guidelinesMaintain current knowledge of Emergency Evacuation proceduresMaintain routine recordsObserve health and safety regulationsMust be able to lift heavy objects (minimum 50 lbs.) PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walkingRequires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearingRequires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulationsRequires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reachingRequires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull medium weights, up to 50 poundsRequires activities involving being around moving machinery, exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity, and exposure to dust, fumes and gases
