Primary Job Function The Electrical Controls Engineer is responsible for Electrical Engineering design/support of facility and manufacturing related projects and processes. Also responsible for designing, programming, implementing, and maintaining the programmable logic controller (PLC) systems that drive our manufacturing processes. Description of Responsibilities Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and production managers, to understand manufacturing requirements and develop PLC control strategies. Coordinate, troubleshoot and work with contractors and vendors on projects. Design and develop PLC programs, HMI (Human-Machine Interface) screens, and control logic to automate/update production processes while adhering to safety and quality standards. Program and configure various PLC platforms (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Schneider Electric) to optimize system performance and facilitate real-time monitoring and troubleshooting. Install, test, and commission PLC systems, ensuring seamless integration with existing equipment and control networks. Troubleshoot and diagnose PLC-related issues, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions to minimize downtime and production interruptions. Collaborate with maintenance teams to develop preventive maintenance plans for PLC systems, ensuring their longevity and reliability. Stay updated with the latest trends and advancements in PLC technology, automation, and industrial control systems to propose innovative solutions for process optimization. Provide training and technical support to operational staff and maintenance teams on PLC systems and control strategies. Maintain functionality and service PA System, Video Surveillance System and Plant Fire Internal Alarm System as needed. Document all design, programming, and troubleshooting activities, maintaining accurate records for future reference. Maintain all process related software licenses and keep current. Prepares and submits capital budget proposals. Develops detailed specifications for competitive bidding on equipment, systems, and construction/installation services. Ensure a culture of behavior based safety by adhering to safety protocols and guidelines in all activities, ensuring a safe working environment for yourself and others. Knowledge and Skills Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or related field. Master's degree is a plus. 5 years or more of experience in PLC programming, automation, and industrial control systems within a manufacturing environment. Proficiency in programming languages such as ladder logic, structured text, and function block diagram for various PLC platforms (e.g., Allen-Bradley ControlLogix). Strong understanding of HMI design principles and experience with HMI development tools Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, DH+) and their implementation. Familiarity with safety standards (e.g., IEC 61508, ISO 13849) and risk assessment methodologies. Experience in creating & editing Electrical Drawings with AutoCAD LT. Excellent problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail and a proactive approach to addressing challenges. Effective communication skills to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders. Experience with motion control systems. Experience with AC and DC drives.
