We are looking for Behavior Support Technicians to join our Education Team in our Intensive Treatment Program classrooms for students ages 5-21 in Lackawanna, NY (just 10 minutes south of Buffalo)! Our Intensive Treatment Education Program, operating two different schools, offers specialized educational services for students who are diagnosed with Autism or a Cognitive Disability paired with a mental health diagnosis.

Full Job Description

Job Summary:

The Intensive Treatment Program (ITP) will include working with adolescents, typically 12 – 21 years old that are diagnosed on the Autism spectrum with mental health concerns and developmental or intellectual disabilities. The Behavior Technician- ITP working in a residential and educational setting is responsible for the delivery of evidence-based methods to support individuals with Autism and/or Intellectual Disability and mental health involvement. The methods include Applied Behavior Analysis approaches; classroom observation; observation in residential setting; data collection; supporting staff to implement individual behavior protocols and behavior intervention plans; and treatment integrity monitoring. In addition, regular assistance with personal hygiene tasks is required. Each individual also may be assigned to one or more special projects including administrative and organization tasks associated with these assignments.

Essential Job Duties:

The Behavior Technician must be able to successfully perform all essential functions of the position as follows:

  1. Performs patient searches and patient belongings searches. Understands the contraband list.

  2. Takes an active role in participating in and supporting a therapeutic and safe milieu.

  3. Develops a working knowledge of therapeutic interventions and interactions.

  4. Observes behaviors and communicates to the supervisor, medical, and others as appropriate.

  5. Works cooperatively with the treatment team in the collection of pertinent data to assist in the development of the individualized treatment plan and Individual Education Plan (IEP).

  6. Assist with and/or independently complete preference assessments for individuals on a monthly and/or as needed basis.

  7. Assist with and/or independently gather information for functional behavior assessments.

  8. Assist the treatment team with making materials for behavior plans, ADL protocols, treatment plans and IEP.

  9. Update and review behavior data on a regular basis.

  10. Implements the behavioral plan developed specifically for the individual.

  11. Provides ongoing feedback to regarding the individual’s response to the behavior plan.

  12. Responsible for the administration and teaching of ADLs as required.

  13. Responsible for assistance with personal hygiene tasks, as required.

  14. Basic knowledge of sensory equipment use and how to provide successful sensory integration to individuals as indicated by their sensory menu and needs assessment.

  15. Understands and utilizes the hand over hand prompts as indicated by the treatment plan.

  16. Knowledge of normal growth and development and the impact of the developmental disabilities on the individual and his/her family.

  17. Has basic knowledge of alternative communication techniques including AAC devices and basic sign language.

  18. Knowledge of and ability to implement individual schedules (sensory schedules, milieu programming, toileting, etc) that are indicated in the behavioral plan.

  19. Utilizes and updates the visual schedule for all activities.

  20. Uses token and other earning systems throughout the shift following the individualized behavior plan.

  21. Maintains compliance with supervision status of individuals (Visual Observation While Awake, 1:1) and freedom of movement (In-house, On Grounds) as indicated by physician order and/or Program Director directive.

  22. Attends and participates in community meetings, groups and milieu programming.

  23. Understands and implements strength based interventions.

  24. Attends staff meetings at a minimum of one time per month.

  25. Performs all scheduled cleaning tasks and environmental rounds.

  26. Understands how to relay information to peers regarding up to date information and provide feedback to the treatment team.

  27. Any other duty as assigned by your supervisor.

Skills:

• Computer skills

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel in particular)

• Knowledge of basic sign language a plus, but not a requirement

Qualifications:

Education:

Minimum Degree Required: Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Applied Behavior Analysis, Psychology, Human Services, Special Education or related

Experience:

Minimum Experience Required: 1-2 years in the development/implementation of behavior support plans with individuals who have developmental disabilities and/or mental health concerns.

*Must demonstrate basic knowledge and competencies in Applied Behavioral Analysis

Required License/Registration/ Certification:

• NYS Driver’s License

OLV Human Services will train otherwise qualified individuals. Preference will be given to those with the following credentials:

o Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)

OR

o Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA)

Training:

• Continuing education as per NYS Office of Profession guidelines

• All required agency trainings (including Applied Behavior Analysis, SCIP-R)

• All trainings required by programs in which you service individuals

Physical Requirements:

The overall nature of the position is sedentary requiring little physical effort with occasional light physical exertion required. There is little, if any, exposure to environmental conditions.

• The constant physical demands of the position are lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, balancing, stooping, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping, and feeling.

• The frequent physical demands of the position are standing, walking, climbing, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, and eye/hand/foot coordination.

• The occasional physical demands of the position are sitting.
