Trane has a well-established and rewarding opportunity to join our organization as a Trainer in our world renown Graduate Training Program . Our focus at Trane is providing our customers with sustainable solutions to their HVAC challenges. To help with that focus, the Trane Graduate Training Program (GTP) was established in 1926. We are looking for a dynamic instructor to join the GTP team in our new facility in La Crosse, WI. In GTP we train new talent how to design, market, and sell equipment, controls, and services. We provide a learning environment that focuses on helping our students grow to their fullest potential both technically and professionally.

Responsibilities of the GTP Instructor Role:

  • Help the GTP team deliver two (2), Twenty (20) week long GTP classes per year. Classes are typically 30-60 students, most of whom are recent college graduates with engineering degrees. Our classes are designed to prepare our students for careers in the sale and marketing of HVAC systems.

  • Mentor students on a one-on-one basis to help them learn more and grow professionally.

  • Teach technical classes in HVAC topics including (but not limited to): HVAC systems and components, building loads, refrigeration, fans, duct design, piping design, business acumen, electricity, psychrometrics, acoustics, energy efficiency, controls, unitary equipment, chilled water equipment, airside equipment, and system applications including sustainability impacts.

  • Teach professional skills in topics including (but not limited to): communication, goal setting, ethics, time management, team building, leadership, reviewing and assessment, public speaking, and understanding the impact of personality.

  • Support the teaching of sales by participating in role plays and similar sales activities.

  • Develop unique teaching methods to engage early talent students.

  • Proactively seek ways to incorporate the use of technology in the classroom and the transformation of L&D to video and virtual training that can be used outside of GTP.

  • Support broader, corporate-wide L&D initiatives.

  • Assess the performance of students and give feedback through grades and coaching.

  • Coordinate with and assist other GTP staff members.

  • Develop and grow your own skills in areas of focus that benefit you, the team, and Trane.

  • Lead tours of HVAC installations.

  • Occasionally teach additional classes to non-GTP students at the request of other Trane departments.

Meet expectations for availability. Specifically: GTP classroom hours are 7:30AM– 4:30PM for most of each 20 week program. Lecture time for each instructor varies considerably from day-to-day and from week-to-week. The new instructor will be encouraged to attend other lectures as often as they are able. Though the requirement changes based on work load, typical days for instructors are 7:00AM – 5:00PM. Additional time will be required occasionally to meet the demands of grading and course design. After hours social events with the students also occur several times throughout each class. Both the staff and the schedule are flexible. Some working from home is possible, but this is primarily an in-person position, based in La Crosse, WI.

Skillset Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent from four-year college or university

  • Five+ years of experience with HVAC technical topics. Ideal candidate has teaching experience in addition to technical.

  • Good English speaking and writing skills. Spanish or French as a second language is a plus.

  • MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and TEAMS proficiency.

Base Compensation Range is $120,550 to $159,950
