Job Title: Tool Maintenance Machinist

Shift/Hours: 1st shift - 6:45 AM - 3:00 PM

Department/Group: Tool Shop

Position Purpose Summary – Perform all operations in work area to meet or exceed expected quality and production standards.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Comply with all federal and state environmental, health and safety regulations as well as any safety policies and protocols outlined by the company.

• Make repairs and revisions to existing tooling in a timely fashion to avoid loss of production.

• Polish all tooling that has been returned from nitriding or production areas.

• Check all tooling returning from outside vendors and make appropriate modifications to ensure tooling maintains original blueprint specifications.

• Perform all welding requirements related to incremental and harvest tooling. Must obtain the following welding certifications: AWS B2.1 Welder Qualification – Steel Plate Fillet – GMAW/GTAW. Must obtain recertification every 2-4 years as deemed appropriate by management. (This function will require OTJ or sourced training)

• Raw material preparation.

• Record all Information on GT data collection system as required.

• Maintain inventory levels of all consigned materials.

• Package and expedite all tooling that is sent to an outside vendor or alternate GT site.

• Maintain records for all tooling that is sent to outside vendors or alternate GT site.

• Deliver all completed tooling to designated production areas.

• Gather and submit all common shop inspection equipment to calibration prior to due date.

• Perform miscellaneous duties in the Tool Shop as assigned.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform 5S functions, including but not limited too:

• Keep fluids (coolants, oil, etc) of equipment at recommended levels

• Ensure tools are properly cleaned

• Participate on teams

• Clean equipment

• General housekeeping in the department

• Notify supervisor of any problems that occur in the manufacture of molds, dies, and fixtures, along with cutting tools and gauges.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

• High School Diploma / GED

• Experience welding MIG/TIG and operating manual machining equipment (lathes and mills) or enrolled in technical school in machining or mold making field of study.

• Ability to read blueprints and utilize machine shop inspection equipment.

• Must be proficient with operating computers, including searching, saving, and editing files

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. without the use of mechanical lifting devices or assistance from others

• Ability to work long periods of time in standing position.

• Perform job in compliance with Company’s Quality Policy (ISO 9000).

• Perform job in a safe manner.

• Ability to wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and safety shoes.

Progression from Tool Maintenance Machinist to Toolmaker Level 1 will be based on company need and the operator’s ability to pass the required hands on testing. While training, work will be done above this job descriptions pay grade
