GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

The Utility Worker plays a vital role in supporting the operations of the public transit agency by performing a variety of tasks related to facility maintenance, cleanliness, and support services. This position requires a reliable and versatile individual with a willingness to perform diverse duties in a fast-paced environment.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

  • Maintain the cleanliness of fleet vehicles - interior and exterior

  • Drive, maneuver, and park vehicles

  • Fuel buses, replenish fluids, and log & record all fluids

  • Download drive cameras & probes fare boxes

  • Perform light maintenance to shop areas, fueling stations, and related facilities.

  • Report maintenance issues to Supervisor

MINOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the maintenance and cleanliness of transit facilities, including bus depots, maintenance yards, stations, and administrative buildings.

  • Perform janitorial duties, such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and trash removal, to ensure facilities are clean, sanitary, and presentable to transit riders and staff.

  • Assist with landscaping and grounds keeping tasks, including lawn care, weed control, and snow removal, to maintain a safe and attractive environment around transit facilities.

  • Support facility maintenance activities, such as painting, minor repairs, and equipment servicing, under the direction of skilled tradespeople and maintenance technicians.

  • Operate a variety of hand and power tools safely and effectively to perform assigned tasks and maintain equipment in good working condition.

  • Assist in the setup and teardown of events, meetings, and special projects at transit facilities, including arranging furniture, setting up audiovisual equipment, and coordinating logistics as needed.

  • Perform light vehicle maintenance tasks, such as fueling, washing, and checking fluid levels, to support transit operations and ensure vehicles are ready for service.

  • Adhere to safety protocols and procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and compliance with safety regulations, to minimize risks and prevent accidents.

  • Provide support to transit operators, mechanics, and other staff members as needed, including running errands, delivering supplies, and assisting with special projects or emergencies.

  • Maintain accurate records of work activities, equipment usage, and inventory levels, reporting any issues or discrepancies to supervisors in a timely manner.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB

Education:

High school diploma, GED or equivalent 

Experience:

  • Valid driver's license for a minimum of 3 years 

  • Eligible and able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License with a passenger endorsement within 30 days of hire.

Other:

  • Ability to pass a DOT physical examination and drug test. 

  • Available to work shifts and flexible work schedules as needed.
