Performs basic drafting, calculations and field work; learns basic design procedures and techniques. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.Essential Duties:Transport Engineer Tech IAssists in preparation of quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies and right-of-way maps.Assists in preparation of roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, equipment and building plans.Learns to use automated roadway programs, hydraulic design programs and/or interactive graphics.Performs basic drafting and calculations in support of design activities; copies detailed plans and drawings.Serves on a survey crew.Works on reproduction of plans.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Transport Engineer Tech IIin addition to the abovePerforms intermediate drafting and calculations in support of design activities; accomplishes non-routine and complex assignments.Prepares quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies and right-of-way maps.Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans.Transport Engineer Tech IIIin addition to the aboveLearns additional automated design methods or specialized design procedures in areas including bridge/culvert detailing, traffic management, geometric design, signal/lighting design, retaining walls and building design.Performs advanced drafting and calculations in support of design activities; develops graphic presentations that include distinctive design features.Reviews entire sets of plans for format, drafting and calculation errors and correlation of plans and specifications.Performs construction inspection.
