The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City is recruiting for the position of Research Associate (RA) to support Community Development and Regional Affairs researchers at the Bank. These researchers conduct innovative analysis on a variety of topics, including community development, regional economics, affordable housing, labor economics, survey design, and participatory research methods.

As a Research Associate, you will be based in Kansas City and a part of the Bank’s Research, Regional, and Community Affairs Division. This is an excellent position for someone who is passionate about research, community development, and regional economics, and is considering a higher degree or career in these or related fields.

Key Activities:

  • Working with senior researchers on academic and general audience research projects to help elevate awareness of issues affecting communities and industries in the Tenth Federal Reserve District, including low- and moderate-income households.

  • Gathering and analyzing data, programming economic models, conducting surveys, and preparing charts for presentations and policy briefings on economic and community development conditions.

  • More experienced RAs write for Bank publications, deliver speeches to civic and educational groups, and participate in Federal Reserve System and local community workgroups.

Required Education and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in economics or a closely related field, such as public policy, urban studies, statistics, or mathematics.

  • Proficiency in programming languages and statistical software packages.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong academic record and experience with empirical research and data analysis highly desirable.

  • Flexible officing, with expectation of working in the office and/or on work travel 60% of the time.
