Robert Half Staff Accountant in Kalamazoo, Michigan

Description We are seeking a diligent and meticulous Staff Accountant to join our team in Kalamazoo, Michigan. This role is primarily responsible for managing accounts payable functions, reconciling various business accounts, and assisting with payroll and month-end closing processes. The Staff Accountant will also be expected to review and recommend process improvements, maintain vendor accounts, and support quarterly forecasting and yearly budget processes.

Responsibilities:

• Manage accounts payable functions including the review and processing of invoice payments

• Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of payments

• Record journal entries as required and research and resolve discrepancies as they arise

• Reconcile bank, vendor, inventory, and other business accounts periodically

• Prepare bi-weekly ACH vendor payment files and maintain vendor accounts regularly

• Reconcile and post credit card transactions in a timely manner

• Manage month-end closing process and assist with year-end closing

• Review P& L and balance sheet accounts monthly

• Assist with bi-monthly payroll by preparing payroll journal entries in a timely manner

• Ensure tax payments are processed in a timely manner

• Prepare weekly reports of outstanding AR to review with management

• Collaborate with Sales Office Manager on invoicing process

• Support quarterly forecasting and yearly budget processes

• Review processes and recommend process improvements

• Follow established procedures and exercise good judgement when dealing with complex issues, communicating with management proactively to manage risk

• Ensure prompt and effective verbal and/or written communication with internal and external customers. Requirements • Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience as a Staff Accountant or in a similar role.

• Proficient in Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) management.

• Experience with Bank Reconciliations is necessary.

• Skilled in maintaining and managing the General Ledger.

• Capable of creating and managing Journal Entries.

• Experience with Month End Close procedures is required.

• Must have working knowledge of NetSuite, Oracle, QuickBooks, SAP, and SAP ERP.

• A strong understanding of financial reporting and other standard accounting practices.

• Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred.
