Overview

As an Outpatient Pharmacy Tech at Bronson, you'll assist pharmacists in filling prescriptions and preparing IV admixtures under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist. You'll interpret, transcribe, and prepare medications for dispensing, and ensure orders are accurately filled for pharmacist review and approval. Direct patient care employees must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED, with 3-6 months of experience/training in a hospital or similar setting required.
  • If not previously trained, a 3-month formal training in pharmacy procedures is necessary.
  • Medical terminology course preferred.
  • Successful completion of the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Exam (PTCB) before hire.
  • Must be licensed in the State of Michigan as a pharmacy technician.
  • Pharmacy students with a valid pharmacy intern license are exempt from the PTCB requirement but must pass the exam within one year of hire.

Responsibilities:

  • Data entry
  • Filling prescriptions
  • Receiving, processing, and stocking orders from wholesalers
  • Answering phones and retrieving voicemail messages
  • Looking up medications in the wholesaler ordering system
  • Refilling robot cells (if applicable)
  • Providing price estimates
  • Printing labels
  • Conducting computer searches for patient information
  • Pulling outdated medications
  • Operating the cash register and badge scanner
  • Managing return-to-stock medications not picked up within two weeks
  • Handling insurance reconciliations
  • Maintaining clean and orderly work areas and equipment, with necessary documentation
