JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Activity Director Assistant
Department: Activities
Supervisor: Activities Director/Director of Nursing
RESPONSIBILTIES
Shall work 40 hours per week and be available to help on special occasions.
Shall maintain flexible hours.
Shall maintain special warmth and love for the elderly residents.
Shall have 1-1 visits with the residents, as this is of the utmost importance.
Shall help in the preparation of the monthly calendar.
The Activity Assistant shall maintain resident/patient confidentiality.
Shall know the facility Fire and Disaster Plan.
Shall assist the Activity Director in the following:
a. Answer letters, if needed.
b. Read mail.
c. Listen to concerns and/or problems and report to the Activity Director, or
the Charge nurse if the Director is not available.
d. Note unsafe conditions and report them to the Charge Nurse or Activity
Director.
e. Complete activity sheets for each resident each day.
f. Help create ideas for resident doors, bulletin board, fun crafts, and
programs.
g. Assists residents with games, cards, and puzzles.
h. Assists in telephone calls to volunteer needs, help, and programs.
i. Assists in planning, preparation and performance of special events.
j. Assist in Beauty Shop, including having female residents prepared for the
Hair Care Professionals and assist with nail care.
k. Assist residents to programs outside the facility.
l. Assist with National Nursing Home Week activities.
m. Assist in writing thank-you notes.
n. Assist in writing the Interest and Ability sheet on each resident every six
months.
o. Assist in determining resident interests (likes and dislikes).
p. Maintain and cultivate good relationships with residents.
q. Assist with feeding as necessary.
r. Assist in providing hands on care during activities including group
exercise.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma
Some college preferred
Experience preferred but not required
Knowledge of job
Certified Nurse Aide Kansas
CPR certified
Employment Health Requirements
1) Initial physical examination by a physician.
2) PPD every year or chest x-ray if past PPD is positive
3) No physical disabilities that would interfere with on-job performance.
Dress Code
1) Scrubs or casual modest business attire according to policy.
2) Makeup to be professional in appearance.

Shall know how to operate the following equipment:
1) Video Cassette Recorder and DVD
2) Stereo
3) Wii
4) Television
Personal
The Activities Assistant should be of good character, have a warm, pleasant,
energetic and cheerful personality, and the ability to understand and relate to the
problems of other members of the staff. Above all, he/she should love elderly people
and enjoy working with them. He/she should have a natural ability to work under the
Activities Director and assist in all types of programs, including arts and crafts.
