JPMorgan Chase U.S. Bank Regulatory Attorney - Executive Director, Assistant General Counsel in Jersey City, New Jersey

Become the lead senior trusted advisor to business and corporate function management on a wide range of U.S. bank regulatory matters, with a focus on mergers and acquisitions, strategic investments, and capital and liquidity planning.

As a Bank Regulatory Attorney - Executive Director, Assistant General Counsel within the Bank Regulatory team, you will be part of a team that reviews new activities, capital investments and acquisitions, advises on the impact of U.S. bank and bank holding company regulations on existing businesses, prepares U.S. regulatory applications for the firm, serves as a liaison with the firm's U.S. bank regulatory agencies, and responds to inquiries from overseas regulators. Your day will involve advising senior business and corporate function management on various U.S. bank regulatory issues including Federal Reserve Regulations K, W and Y, OCC regulations on investment securities, lending limit, appraisal regulations, as well as new and proposed regulations issued by the bank regulatory agencies. You will work closely with members of the firm's lines of business, Legal Department, Global Government Relations and Office of Regulatory Affairs to help coordinate the firm's response to proposed rules and regulations. You will also support the firm's participation in the various trade associations of which the firm is a member, and help write firm comment letters in response to proposed regulations.

Job responsibilities

  • Serve as a lead legal advisor to senior business or corporate function group leaders on a broad range of U.S. bank and bank holding company regulatory matters.

  • Support Global Government Relations and Office of Regulatory Affairs from a legal perspective on the development and implementation of a firm-wide strategy for regulatory policy.

  • Partner and collaborate with other members of the Bank Regulatory Legal Group and the Legal Department on advising on proposals for new activities, investments and products from a U.S. bank regulatory legal perspective.

  • Represent the firm's interests in trade associations or other public forums on advocacy with respect to proposed rulemakings.

  • Serve as a resource to other members of the Bank Regulatory Legal Group, including training and mentoring junior members of the team.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Juris Doctor (U.S.)

  • 8+ years of U.S. bank regulatory legal experience with a law firm, financial institution or U.S. bank regulatory agency

  • Authorized to practice as corporate counsel and a member of good standing in the state/jurisdiction in which the position is based or in compliance with in-house counsel registration rules of that state/jurisdiction

  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, influencing and communication skills

  • Excellent judgement, writing skills and executive presence

  • Self-starter, effective under pressure, proactive and flexible

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. banking law and policy

  • Able to preserve confidentiality and exercise discretion
