GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Coordinates, leads, evaluates, and supervises employees in the clinical engineering department. Oversees applicable departmental operations and hospital programs relative to preventive maintenance, internal/external service, capital projects, and other services relative to clinical devices, imaging equipment, and laboratory systems. Helps maintain departmental operations at an optimum level of quality, efficiency, compliance, and customer service. Delegates work flow and applies technical knowledge in conjunction with director as needed. Works as a team member. Performs repairs and preventive maintenance activities to applicable medium and high technology devices and systems within areas of expertise as required. Participation in the departmental on-call program is required.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinates clinical engineering departmental resources and employees to implement and maintain applicable departmental and hospital initiatives and programs as directed. Oversees clinical engineering technicians and specialists within their assigned areas of imaging, clinical services, or laboratory systems to ensure optimum performance, regulatory compliance, and superior customer service. Assists director with overall management of supplied services and capital projects. (30%)

  • Organizes, coordinates, and prioritizes departmental resources to overcome obstacles, improve efficiencies, and affect quality outcomes. Functions as a coach, instructor, and leader for departmental employees as required developing skills and demonstrating competence. (20%)

  • Independently operates and performs and oversees preventive maintenance, safety, and performance inspections, troubleshooting, repairs and calibrations on specialized equipment such as: diagnostic imaging equipment, (general RF rooms, fluoroscope rooms, portable x-ray units/c-arms, tomography rooms, nuclear medicine imaging systems, diagnostic ultrasound systems, cardiac cath systems, special procedure angio systems, computed radiology, dialysis equipment, anesthesia gas machines, tube system, halogenated anesthetic monitors, ventilators, and computer/network systems for medical equipment. These duties are also performed for CE Services outside the Center (physicians, ambulance companies, clinics, etc.) to generate revenue for the Center. (10%)

  • Performs delegated responsibilities and actions of department resources, such as parts ordering and inventory control, administer service/PM contracts, equipment warranties, vendor demand service, second sourcing of parts/supplies, and evaluate/perform emergency call back/overtime assignments. These duties are also performed on medical equipment for CE services outside the Center (physicians, ambulance companies, clinics, etc.) to generate revenue for the Center. (10%)

  • Conduct equipment and technology management assistance to standardize equipment, provide technical/operational/cost analysis, implementation of new medical equipment/systems, keep existing equipment at current technology and safety levels, and plan for the replacement of equipment. (10%)

  • Performs back-up general electronic and electrical equipment PM inspections and repairs to reduce equipment failures, provide for safe and reliable equipment operations, reduce costs, and maintain detailed/accurate records. (10%)

  • Provide and receive professional and education development to provide training on electrical safety and equipment operation, and to keep professional skills current with standards, regulations, and current work practices. (10%)

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

  • A.S. Engineering Biomedical Equipment Tech or A.S. Engineering Electronics/Electrical.

  • Graduate from an electronic technical school.

  • 5-7 years’ experience in as a Biomedical Equipment Technician.

  • Current state driver’s license.

Preferred

  • BA/BS Degree in biomedical, clinical or electrical engineering.

  • CBET (Certified Biomedical Engineering Technician) or equivalent (CRES/CLES).

  • Eligibility for advanced certifications in specialized areas or management.

  • Previous supervisory experience.
