Kimball Electronics Design Services Project Leader in JASPER, Indiana

The Design and Engineering Services Project Leader is a multi-disciplined, challenging role, reporting to the Design Services Manager. This position is a remote position and is a part of our Global Shared Services Team at Kimball Electronics, Inc. (KEI). In this position you would have the opportunity to work daily with global centers of competence in technical fields. Unlike traditional design work, this position integrates design into the production facility from the beginning. QUICK SUMMARY Our new team member will be responsible for defining the technical activities required to support the development of products and/or product development related tasks, from concept to customer, managing all aspects of the project and interactions between design partners and Kimball s customers. To be successful, the candidate must be self-motivated in a fast-paced environment with the ability to think creatively and problem solve at a global level. The ability to work and communicate with a variety of cultures, languages, and situations is a critical skill for this role. This position requires attention to detail and the capability of being direct, but respectful, in communication. BASIC BACKGROUND REQUIREMENTS This position will require: * 5 to 10 years experience in product development related activities * 3 to 5 years of Project Leadership experience, possibly concurrent with the above * Strong communication skills and comfortable with direct customer interaction * Several years experience in a multi-cultural, global environment * Ability to adapt and manage change * Ability to travel occasionally * Engineering degree required KEY PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES SHORT TERM: (0 TO 6 MONTHS) * Learn KEI Guiding Principles, philosophies, and cultural attributes. * Develop a basic understanding of Design and Engineering Services at KEI. * Lead weekly open actions conference calls with customers. * Lead weekly technical calls with design partners, helping to resolve technical issues as they develop during the course of projects. * Coordinate the creation of design specifications and other engineering data with the customer s design team and KEI s 3rd party design partner. * Entry level projects likely to include: * multi-layer PCB layout, using CADENCE, Altium or Mentor Graphics * BOM management in support of RoHS, REACH and Obsolescence (identifying Form, Fit, Function alternatives and requisite engineering support) MIDTERM: (6 TO 18 MONTHS) * Review Request for Quotations (RFQ s) and support the construction of technical and financial aspects of proposals. * Develop tasks and gantt charts to support the development of NRE proposals. * Schedule, organize and lead periodic joint (partner and customer) project reviews and design tollgates. * Support monthly reporting of progress to Kimball Leadership. * Most likely projects would include: * Target Costing/VAVE development and requisite NRE to support impactful solutions * Product validation plan development and/or execution LONG TERM: (18 MONTHS +) * Lead the development of proposals in response to customer RFQ s. * Coordinate engineering schedule and follow up performance against estimates with 3rd party design partner. * Facilitate team meetings and communication to ensure timely completion of design projects. * Manage and coordinate activities of 3rd party design partners in the design and development of new or modified products. * Support the selection of design partners, to fulfill Kimball s commitment to our customers. * Projects would include concept to customer development in the Medical and Industrial control product developments.
