BAE Systems Heavy Lift Structural Engineer in Jacksonville, Florida

Job Description

As part of our BAE Systems Jacksonville Ship Repair (JSR) team, you will be working alongside some of the industry's top talent on the forefront of technology. We are currently hiring for an experienced Structural/Heavy-Lift/Transport Engineer with the ability to obtain a PE license in Florida to supportdeveloping conventional and improved engineering solutions for heavy lifting and transport projects using Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs). The position s primary role is to perform heavy lift engineering duties which include: provide heavy lift engineering consultations, evaluate lifting requirements, and develop heavy lift engineering technical packages. Additionally, the JSR heavy lift engineer will be responsible to provide credible and specialized engineering analysis while advising on the most optimum and cost-effective methods of utilizing required large sized heavy lifting equipment throughout the shipyard. The role is also the corporate entity that oversees all heavy equipment company procedures and policies.

You will directly support the preparation of heavy lift work by selecting existing and renewed engineering method statements, drawings, calculations, visualizations, manuals, risk assessments and/or other relevant documents to ensure a safe and efficient execution of the movement of U.S. War ships and other commercial vessels.

WHAT YOU LL BE DOING

  • Developing and following up on complete engineered Lifting and Transport plans

  • Calculating (ground pressure, transporter suitability, crane capacity, steel structures and lifting equipment) and determining the details of projects

  • Using your expertise to develop best-in-class engineering solutions for heavy lifting and transportation projects

  • Working with both conventional methodologies and developing new approaches

  • Working with staff in the field to develop solutions to and troubleshoot complex heavy lift and transport challenges

  • Preparing and selecting both existing and renewed engineering statements

  • Developing drawings, calculations, visualizations, manuals, risk assessments and other key documents

  • Pointing out risks with regard to safety, the environment or health and reporting these risks to senior management

  • Ensuring efficient execution that delivers the right results for the customer

  • Completion of AutoCAD drawings and/or steering the CAD Engineering; Designing custom lifting devices and auxiliary transport equipment

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering. We may consider a closely related technical degree.

  • Typically 4 years experience in heavy lift operations, with at least 2 years' experience using Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs) equipment.

  • Proficient knowledge of CADD tools (AutoCAD, Revit, Visual Analysis, STAAD/RAM, etc.) for efficient production of engineering work.

  • Ability to coordinate with a team and interact with external design firms,

  • Review and approve design packages from equipment suppliers and design firms providing constructability input.

  • Capable of creating required engineering documentation using Microsoft Office Suite products including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Project, and Access.

  • English, fluent proficiency verbal and written

  • Evidence of experience in a similar role, ideally in any/some of the following sectors: civil engineering, shipyards, construction, renewables, oil and gas, offshore, ports and mining

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $115100 - $195700

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
