This vacancy is located in the Maintenance Department at Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System in Jackson, LA. ELMHS is the largest 24-hour, multi-site, state psychiatric complex, comprised of residential, outpatient and inpatient services.

This position may be filled as either a Probational or Job Appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a Promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency wide permanent status employees), by Detail to Special Duty; or as a part-time WAE. Current permanent status, classified employees may be required to accept a Probational appointed if selected for a full-time position.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Three years of experience in the plastering trade.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

Training in the plastering trade will substitute for a maximum of two years of the required experience on a month for month basis.

Job Concepts

Function of Work:

To provide assistance, guidance and support to subordinate plasterers, apprentices and/or helper while also performing the full range of journeyman duties of the trade.

Level of Work:

Advanced.

Supervision Received:

General from a Plasterer Foreman or other maintenance supervisory personnel.

Supervision Exercised:

Leadworker over plasterers, apprentices, and/or helpers.

Location of Work:

All agencies, statewide.

Job Distinctions:

Differs from Plasterer by responsibility for functioning as a leadworker over subordinates engaged in plastering work.

Differs from Plasterer Foreman and other supervisors by lack of full supervisory responsibility over a plastering unit.

Examples of Work

Performs all the duties enumerated for the journeyman plasterer job.

Provides guidance for subordinates as directed by the Foreman.

Surveys assigned jobs and insures that sufficient and proper materials and tools are on hand to complete each day's work.

Directs the sequence of work and assigns subordinates their individual tasks as necessary.

Works with and sets the pace of work for assigned subordinates.

Keeps records as required by the Foreman.

Oversees apprentice training.
