Summary

Bausch + Lomb’s Pharmaceutical and Consumer R&D organization is seeking an experienced scientist to contribute to our discovery and research efforts to develop therapies for sight-threatening disease. This new role is being created within the R&D organization to enable our aspiration of the Bausch + Lomb mission of helping people see better to live better. This is an opportunity for a highly motivated scientist to be a key contributor, shaping the future of the organization and building a best-in-class eye health pipeline.

Position Objective

The Scientist, Biological Research will be responsible for developing in vitro cell-based disease models to investigate novel, discovery-stage therapeutics and to support formulation screening for clinical-stage programs across all segments of the eye. He/She/They will conduct hands-on experiments to differentiate, characterize, and assess drug effects in various cell culture model systems. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise working with complex cell-based disease model systems to test hypotheses related to drug disposition and pharmacodynamic effects. Additional experience in the design and oversight of follow-on in vivo pharmacology experiments is a plus. This role will be lab-based, and the candidate will work with a highly collaborative team to support multiple projects. He/She/They will share our passion for bringing innovative medicines to patients. This scientist will also participate in evaluation of external opportunities as part of building our innovative pipeline.

Responsibilities

  • Research, design and execute strategic experiments to establish gold-standard and novel in vitro cell-based model systems to support ophthalmic drug discovery and development

  • Independently conduct cell culture techniques and develop cell-based assays

  • Independently utilize multiple experimental methods to characterize cell-based systems and evaluate the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic effects of novel therapeutics

  • Generate and document high-quality experimental results

  • Present data and results to multiple cross-functional stakeholders within the organization as well as external collaborators

  • Effectively collaborate and communicate with peers and teams to support multiple projects

Requirements

  • Title commensurate with experience

  • PhD in molecular biology, cell biology, immunology, biological science, or other related discipline with at least 2 years of industry experience; or

  • Masters in molecular biology, cell biology, immunology, biological science, or other related discipline with at least 5 years of industry experience

  • Previous experience conducting ophthalmology research, in academia and/or industry, is a major plus

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in cell culture, as well as cell and molecular biology techniques, including viability assays, PCR, gel electrophoresis, immunohistochemistry, and microscopy

  • Previous experience conducting electrophysiological assessments is a plus

  • Knowledgeable of in vivo approaches to test disease hypotheses and assess drug action

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Highly motivated person who can work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment

As required by New York State's pay transparency bill, Bausch + Lomb provides a good faith minimum and maximum salary range of compensation for roles that can or will be performed, in California. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. For New York State, the range of starting annual pay for this role is $90,000 to $140,000.
