Design Engineer

Description

  • To ensure that all designs meet technical, performance, reliability and cost targets as identified by a Senior Engineer or Engineering Manager;

  • Use tolerances, specification limits, and GD&T to perform accurate tolerance stack analysis;

  • To produce and maintain all drawings and Bill of Material records, consistent with the Engineering Change process and as guided by senior engineering staff;

  • To ensure that all designs can be manufactured both efficiently and cost effectively through liaison with Manufacturing staff, incorporating mistake proofing or visual guidelines if miss-builds are possible;

  • To prepare and deliver presentations which demonstrate design concepts developed to meet design specification and functional requirements;

  • To participate in DFMEA & PFMEA reviews with a cross functional team to ensure designs are robust and sufficient to meet reliability and durability targets;

  • Utilise best practice reference documents and standard in-house components where at all possible. Liaise with other Engineers and departments when implementing new principles;

  • Work with a cross functional team to support the creation & updating of assembly instructions and Technical Publications;

  • To assist in the development of test regimes to validate design elements of a project.

Qualifications

  • You should have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in an engineering related field, preferably Mechanical Engineering;

  • Knowledge of CAD (ideally UG NX) and FEA software (ideally ANSYS) required;

  • Comfortable designing in a variety of materials including steels, plastics and alloys;

  • Able to demonstrate a hands-on approach working within a multi-disciplinary team to take design concepts through to medium volume production to meet challenging specifications and timescales;

  • Self-motivated and able to work with low levels of supervision to defined objectives;

  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills;

  • Time management skills, ability to prioritise in time-pressured environment and focus on delivery within tight-deadlines;

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with others;

  • Initiative, innovation and engineering enthusiasm;

  • Can-do attitude and willingness to learn new skills.
