The Position

Boehringer Ingelheim is on the lookout for a seasoned professional to take on the role of Head of Global Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) Engineering Management. This role, based in Biberach or Ingelheim, is an opportunity to manage and lead Engineering Managers for large-scale CAPEX Projects on a global scale. The role involves strategic planning, defining engineering structures and procedures, and influencing early technical implementation. The goal is to add value and support to stakeholders, ensuring smooth global operations.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • In your new role as Head of Global CAPEX Engineering Management, you will be leading all Senior Engineering Managers and Lead Engineers who are working within large-scale Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) projects worldwide. Your guidance, coaching, and support will be instrumental in ensuring the team's success in delivering CAPEX projects.

  • Strategic leadership is another crucial aspect of this role. You will ensure that all activities are aligned, dependencies are considered, and project schedules and budgets are coordinated, contributing significantly to the successful execution of CAPEX projects.

  • Your focus on stakeholder management and risk management will be vital in managing risks and meeting quality standards. Coordination with cross-functional teams, external stakeholders, and contractors/vendors is also expected to ensure project milestones are achieved.

  • Overseeing the financial aspects of CAPEX projects will fall under your area of responsibilities. This includes budgeting and forecasting, cost control, and resource allocation, requiring a strong understanding of these areas.

  • Preparation and issuance of the project engineering concepts, project specifications, and collection of the User Requirements Specifications (URS) will be part of your duties. You will also establish and enforce engineering standards, best practices, and processes to ensure consistency, compliance, and efficiency across all CAPEX projects.

  • Monitoring and assessing project performance will be a regular part of your role. You will identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions as necessary, focusing on asset management and strategic planning.

  • Lastly, your commitment to global operations and compliance will be demonstrated by ensuring that all engineering activities and project designs incorporate sustainable practices and technologies where possible.

Requirements

  • Masters degree (e.g. MBA, MSc) or Diploma degree in engineering (mechanical, process, chemical engineering or equivalent). A Project management certificate (e.g., PMI) is desirable

  • Long-term general engineering project management experience, including several years’ experience in CAPEX investment projects in an international environment

  • Long-term-standing professional experience as an Engineering Manager or Department Manager in global, strategic CAPEX projects in the life science and pharmaceutical industry

  • Excellent project and engineering management skills and expertise of large CAPEX projects

  • A proven track record of successful projects and established best practices

  • Excellent project management skills and expertise of large CAPEX projects

  • Strong leadership skills and the capability to motivate others

  • Excellent communication skills in German and English
