Responsibilities:

The Sr. Director Engineering Tech Center is responsible for providing global technical expertise in the engineering sciences related to Process Engineering and secondary/tertiary loop disciplines. This includes knowledge and stewardship of the following: First Principles, unit operations, Equipment Flow Diagrams, Capability Calculations, Material & Energy Balances, Facilities (fitness for use), Root Cause applications, Equipment and Unit Operation Changes/Improvements including new technologies, Scale-ups, Periodic Reviews, Process Safety, Maintenance/Reliability, etc. This function has a global presence. This team provides engineering support to global manufacturing sites for the customer network, Global Facilities Delivery (GFD), development sites, as well as external manufacturing organizations and alliances.

The Sr. Director position has overall responsibility for the supervision, performance, and development of ETC employees, the quality of the results, cGMP compliance and productivity improvement, discipline leadership and overall customer service. The ETC Sr. Director oversees the area’s workload, customer communications, coordination with 3rd party technical support, technical issue resolution, and regulatory compliance. The ETC Sr. Director directly supervises several group leaders and individual professionals.

Key Objectives/Deliverables

  • Run the Business – Lead the Performance Management process by overseeing development of employee PM plans; conduct interim and final reviews; Coach, develop, and provide feedback to members of the team; Demonstrate and encourage strong leadership behaviors; Support diversity in recruiting and development of team members; Lead recognition, merit pay, and promotion decisions; Lead talent assessment and succession planning activities; Encourage shared learning within and outside the department; Lead short and long-term business planning activities (objectives, budget, capital) to meet customer needs now and in the future.

  • Safety and Compliance – Ensure personal and team compliance with all applicable regulatory and corporate policy requirements; ensure appropriate safety practices and procedures are in place and are followed to prevent injuries; ensure the ETC meets current Quality expectations and is a part of actively monitoring evolving Quality and other regulatory expectations related to engineering.

  • Customer Service – Plan and manage overall workload and resources to meet customer requirements; Maintain close partnership with key manufacturing customers and GFD to ensure appropriate application of ETC expertise; Actively participate on cross-functional management teams to ensure alignment and effective running of the business; Assist plants in obtaining resources in related disciplines when capacity is not available on the team.

  • Productivity – Identify and where appropriate, sponsor productivity improvement products (local and customer based LEAN efforts included).

  • Manage Disciplines/Technical Excellence – Provide personal and systemic oversight of technical activities within the group and related engineering disciplines; Ensure ETC function is reliably delivering technically sound work products; Monitor progress of new technology initiatives; Ensure staff stays current in the latest developments for the pharmaceutical industry; Effectively encourage impactful knowledge sharing and education, including the development and application of new technology, Best Practices and Technical Reports.

  • Provide Strategic Plan and Business Plan implementation and oversight by managing the ETC budget and headcount appropriately and participating in manufacturing network initiatives and evaluations as needed.

Basic Qualifications

  • BS Engineering or related science field

  • Minimum 7 years experience in process engineering or related areas (including manufacturing, plant engineering, TSMS, maintenance/reliability)

  • Minimum 2 years management experience (Associate Director or Sr. Director level)

  • Minimum 2 years experience in cGMP regulated environment, particularly in process engineering.

  • Demonstrated learning agility

  • Experience with Lean and/or Six Sigma

Additional Information

  • Must be able to travel up to 25% of the time, US and international.

  • Will require occasional work in a variety of manufacturing environments; some safety equipment and/or gowning may be required.
