Position Summary

The Marion County Election Board is committed to upholding the integrity of elections by providing free, fair, and accessible voting to anyone in our county who wishes to cast a ballot, and by whichever means they choose to do so. Job Summary

Interns will work in all departments within the agency to support full-time, seasonal, and temporary staff in the preparation and execution of elections in Marion County.

Position Responsibilities

  • Monitor and accept campaign finance reports.

  • Support Election Board staff and vendors in the creation of ballots and testing of election equipment.

  • Recruit, assign, and engage with poll workers to staff each of the Vote Centers in Marion County.

  • Assist with website and social-media content and other communication strategies.

  • Assist staff with poll-worker training sessions before Election Day.

  • Review, process, and approve applications for voters requesting a vote-by-mail absentee ballot.

  • Aid the Service Center Supervisor by monitoring inventory and assembling supply kits for Vote Centers.

  • Establish an active leadership role for In-Person Early Voting at the City-County Building and other satellite locations throughout the county.

  • Respond to voter questions by email and phone and refer more complex issues to staff.

  • Assist in Election Day operations at the Election Service Center.

Qualifications

Position is open to current college juniors, seniors, and graduate students.

Ideal candidate will be available for 37.5 hours each week, but accommodations will be granted to fill the position.

Applicants must be registered to vote in Marion County, Indiana.

The position is open to all academic majors, but applicants must have an interest in elections, campaigns, politics, and/or government, in general.

Applicants must be proficient in the standard Microsoft Office suite, and familiar with databases, cloud-based programs, and be willing to learn and follow detailed legal processes.

A high-level of confidentiality and professionalism is required.

Interns will interact with members of the public and Election Board stakeholders. A strong customer-service background is preferred.

Ability to multitask. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
