Role Overview:

As a Civil Engineer, you will be responsible for working in the multi-disciplinary civil engineering field in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing specialties. In this position, you will be responsible for planning, designing, and writing specifications related to a specific engineering project. This position serves in the Sanitary and Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing Section of DNR Engineering. Experience in Design, Project Management, Auto Cad, and MS Projects or equivalent is required. Microsoft Office is utilized daily.

Salary Statement:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $67,314.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Prepare plans, specifications, and cost estimates for current and future department projects and obtain required regulatory approvals.

  • Review plans, specifications, and studies for department projects prepared by private consulting firms and review submittals from contractors and suppliers.

  • Assist in design of projects owned, operated, or under the maintenance/repair responsibility of DNR.

  • Perform engineering analyses along with developing plans and specifications for the projects.

  • Stay current with advances in the engineering practice, and with statutes, codes, rules, and policies, and provide input for legislative proposals.

  • Review engineering models to determine if they meet standards and make recommendations on specifications and plans.

  • Prepare and submit for permits based upon design criteria as established by relevant codes and regulations.

  • Prepare and provide expert testimony in hearings.

  • Serve as a technical expert for field meetings, incident, and emergency conditions.

  • Assist with topographic data collection and survey interpretation as needed.

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirement to be considered for employment:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Geotechnical, Structural Engineering, or a related field.

  • A minimum of two (2) years of related technical work experience.

  • Be willing to travel with an appropriate accommodation.

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer within the State of Indiana (preferred), Engineer Intern in the State of Indiana, having passed the fundamentals of engineering examination, or as a licensed professional in Indiana with extensive experience in engineering geology, with a focus on dam and water resources projects.

  • Proficiency or the ability to quickly become skilled in various engineering software applications.

  • Ability to effectively coordinate the work of others in assigning responsibilities and coordinating engineering design work.

  • Effective communication skills.

  • Ability to analyze a situation or problem and determine the most reliable and cost-effective solution.

  • Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with consulting engineers, governmental representatives, and contractors.
