The Job

This role is for a Sr. Manager of Cloud Engineering, part of the Global Infrastructure Core Technologies (GICT) Team. This role provides point for our Cloud Operations Team that supports infrastructure on behalf of several WBD business units and all WBD brands. This includes new infrastructure developments, migrations, support, and maintenance. This individual will be exposed to a variety of IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS platforms including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure to support best practices for running enterprise level applications in the cloud.

This individual will have a background in both Linux Systems Engineering and Windows Systems Engineering. Proficiency in Terraform or Cloud Formation for Infrastructure-as-Code is required. The Sr. Manager of Cloud Engineering is responsible for developing and sustaining an efficient and effective cloud operation team; overseeing highly available infrastructure in the cloud, automated code deployment pipelines and securing the account using best practices and procedures defined by the GICT team.

Operational Responsibilities

  • Grow and develop a world-class cloud support team.

  • Provide direct technical and managerial oversight to lead an expanding cloud engineering support team.

  • Oversee support of cloud infrastructure for enterprise applications.

  • Ensure existing automated deployment pipelines are operational and sound.

  • Work closely with the rest of the Engineering teams to automate & improve infrastructure deployments where needed.

  • Implement and improve incident triage, escalation, monitoring and alerting.

  • Ensure security compliance and governance assessments are conducted and followed as needed.

  • Provide and improve upon production readiness assessments.

Project Responsibilities

  • Participate in prioritizing, coordinating, planning, executing, and closing projects and tasks to produce the required deliverables.

  • Research product and technical data to recommend products, technologies, and processes for ongoing projects & improvements.

  • Act as a mentor for other cloud operation team members when troubleshooting infrastructure, middleware, and related applications.

  • Lead group-brainstorming sessions with cloud operations support teams.

Communication

  • Keep Cloud Engineering teams and other teams updated on changes to architecture and infrastructure standards and tooling.

  • Keep operations and project teams well informed of changes regarding status of assigned tasks.

  • Create and deliver presentations to Cloud Engineering teams or other teams and to management as needed.

  • Communicate with clients regarding maintenance, incidents, and projects.

  • Attend online meetings with teams in the U.S. as needed.

The Essentials

Work Experience

  • Minimum of 12-15 years of experience working in technology, with increasing levels of responsibility.

  • Minimum 5 years of demonstrated management and leadership experience.

  • Demonstrated experience establishing automation-first teams and systems.

  • Minimum 3 years working experience in public cloud environments, particularly Amazon AWS or Microsoft Azure.

  • 5+ years of professional experience with DevOps fundamentals and Systems Engineering in Linux and Windows.

  • Good Knowledge of scripting.

  • Strong knowledge of automation methodologies, languages, and tooling.

  • Solid familiarity with Systems Engineering, Operating systems, Networking concepts and security.

Knowledge/Skills & Competencies

  • Technical Knowledge /Skills

  • Solid understanding of AWS services and products (EC2, ECS, Fargate, VPC, SQS, RDS, S3, IAM, CloudWatch, etc.)

  • Experience with AWS platform for building infrastructure using IaC methodologies

  • Capable of serving as a subject-matter expert in topics related to web hosting architecture, such as high availability, CI/CD, performance analysis, scaling, SSL, local and global load balancing, caching, and troubleshooting

  • Experience with CI/CD - AWS CodeBuild, CodePipeline

  • Ability to provide technical leadership and support to developers for designing and deploying modern solutions.

  • Solid understanding of version control systems (git), including branching and merging strategies.

  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python, Bash, Node, PowerShell.

  • Working knowledge of Terraform and CloudFormation for building infrastructure as code.

  • Strong Linux and Windows system administration background.
