Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Database Developer cum Database Administrator (DBA) who is proficient in both SQL Server and PostgreSQL databases. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of our databases, ensuring data integrity, availability, and performance. You will work closely with development and operations teams with database-related projects and operations to ensure the delivery of high-quality software.

Key Responsibilities:

Database Design & Development:

  • Collaborate with development teams to design, create and optimize databases.

  • Develop and maintain stored procedures, triggers, and functions and other database operations as needed.

  • Provide guidance on best practices for database usage and data modeling.

Database Management:

  • Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server and PostgreSQL databases.

  • Perform database upgrades, migrations, and patch management.

  • Monitor database performance and troubleshoot issues.

  • Ensure backup and recovery strategies, along with data safety and availability.

Performance Tuning:

  • Analyze and optimize database queries, indexes, and schemas.

  • Monitor and tune database parameters to enhance performance.

  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.

Security:

  • Implement and manage database security measures, including access control and data encryption.

  • Monitor and respond to security incidents and vulnerabilities.

Disaster Recovery & High Availability:

  • Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans for databases.

  • Implement high-availability solutions such as replication, clustering, or failover.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Maintain detailed documentation for database configurations, processes, and procedures.

  • Generate reports and provide insights on database usage and performance.

Support & Collaboration:

  • Work closely with development and operations teams to ensure seamless integration and deployment.

  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for database-related issues.

  • Provide mentorship and guidance to other team members.

Automation:

  • Implement automation scripts for routine database maintenance tasks.

  • Develop and set up monitoring tools to track database health and performance.

Troubleshooting and Incident Management:

  • Diagnose and resolve production issues, often under tight time constraints.

  • Participate in on-call rotations and incident management processes.

Documentation:

  • Document DevOps processes, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure configurations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Proven experience (5+ years) as a Database Developer and Administrator, working with both SQL Server and PostgreSQL databases.

Technical Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of SQL Server and PostgreSQL, including database architecture and internals.

  • Experience with cloud-based databases (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database) is a plus.

  • Proficiency in SQL and database scripting languages (e.g., T-SQL, PL/pgSQL).

  • Experience with database design, schema modeling, and data normalization.

  • Familiarity with database security practices and measures.

  • Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Splunk etc.).

  • Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
