Brief Job Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and strategic intellectual to join our Product Management team as a Product Development Specialist. This is a non-supervisory position to provide product development support for USP’s new initiative Materials Program. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing business case studies to develop future product mix strategies, managing the product pre-pipeline, gathering and prioritizing product and customer requirements, and work with strategy team to assess new material categories. Our ideal candidate has a background in science and business case studies and can manage data analysis while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

The Product Development Specialist has the following responsibilities:

  • Market Research: Utilize market research insights from within the USP strategy teams to identify trends and target customer preferences.

  • Product Development: Coordinate with Science and commercial teams to plan and identify new products for inclusion in the portfolio and maximize product launches. Additional objectives are to develop broad expertise in other areas to support new product introductions that will include API reference materials& associated impurities, excipients, extractables and leachable, dissolution media and reagents, physiochemistry reagents, nano materials, and more for potential inclusion into the materials portfolio.

  • Collaboration: Work with the strategy & Industry Programs to build future portfolio of new products.

  • Product Analysis: Collaboratively work with data strategy & analytics team to assess the product performance by conducting regular product analysis and then recommend, implement those findings.

  • Stakeholder Management: Manage relationships with internal stakeholders.

  • Sales Forecasting: Work with product management team to Forecast product sales and recommend material goals.

  • Risk Management: Monitor and manage potential product risks.

  • Training: Identify internal experts, expand on learning and collaborate with scientific affairs and marketing teams, create knowledge transfer channels and provide training regarding product features and benefits.

  • Industry Knowledge: Maintain up-to-date knowledge about the pharmaceutical industry and competitors’ products, including regulatory trends and areas of focus.

Who is USP Looking For?

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of our mission, commitment to excellence through inclusive and equitable behaviors and practices, ability to quickly build credibility with stakeholders, along with the following competencies and experience:

  • Master’s degree in chemistry, Pharmacy, or a related field with minimum 4-6 years along with minimum 1-2 years’ experience in building new product portfolio.

  • Hands on experience in the analytical laboratory with exposure to diverse types of pharmaceutical finished products & complex generics.

  • A thorough understanding of the development, production and testing of pharmaceutical materials, including APIs, excipients, and finished dosage forms.

  • Proven experience in product development and management within the pharmaceutical industry.

  • Experience in handling software like Endnote, Chemdraw, Chemfinder, Scifnder, Reaxys, Patent databases and other google search engines etc.

  • Familiarity with market research tools and techniques.

  • Knowledge of standards used for pharmaceutical product testing such as analytical reference material, certified reference material, and reference standards.

  • Experience with handling large amounts of data and information using scientific databases.

  • Experience reviewing pharmaceutical patents and patent claims.

  • Experience developing projects/products in life science industry, CRO/CDMO or equivalent relevant experience.

  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and compliance.

  • Excellent organizational skills and use of excel and Microsoft Office suite.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to achieve business objectives.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Able to work flexible hours when needed in collaboration with global teams.

  • Workload management skills; able to juggle a diverse and rapidly changing workload, delivering across several teams within a matrixed structure.

Additional Desired Preferences

  • MBA or advanced degree preferred.

  • Experienced at managing and analyzing business and product sales data/similar database tools.

  • Experience creating and maintaining dashboards (Excel (working with functions, pivot tables, data visualization), Tableau, or other platforms).
