Huntsville Utilities Water Plant Operator in Huntsville, Alabama
Job Statement:The Water Plant Operator I position is a technical and skilled position performing analytical and process related work in the operation of a drinking water treatment plant under the direction of an ADEM certified Grade IV Water Treatment Plant Operator. This position assists in the operations of groundwater and surface water plants and monitoring the distribution system while also ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulation. The Water Plant Operator I will follow the Trainee Program set forth by Huntsville Utilities Water Department.
Essential Duties:
- Performs all duties and responsibilities necessary in order to maintain regulatory compliance with all ADEM, EPA, or other applicable regulatory body policies, laws, etc.
- Checks various operational parameters in the plant; reports process and equipment status to certified operator.
- Assists in monitoring the telemetry and SCADA systems, using the information to control reservoir valves, booster pumps, and wells to distribute finished water throughout the system as needed by customers.
- Monitors and adjusts parameters as needed based on the laboratory analysis of raw and finished water and guidance from certified operator for proper drinking water treatment.
- Operates and controls electric motor, pumps, valves, etc. either manually or remotely to regulate raw and finished water flows.
- Operates and regulates chemical feeders and other equipment to ensure optimum treatment in the most economical manner.
- Reviews accuracy of all written and electronic log entries, records, and reports and ensures all entries have been correctly recorded at the close of the shift.
- Immediately notifies the certified operator of results indicative of potential impact on water quality.
- Conducts regular inspections of the plant reporting any malfunctions discovered to the certified operator.
- Answer routine questions from customers pertaining to water issues or routes to proper personnel for response.
- Performs wash down of equipment to include basins, filters, etc. and general cleaning duties using an industrial hose.
- Performs basic maintenance and troubleshooting of plant equipment.
- Time management to ensure the understanding of plant operations and ADEM Grade IV test preparation.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
