Responsibilities:

The Senior Systems Engineering & Integration Engineer will support the SLS Block 1B/EUS Development Program Office ensuring the adequacy of SE&I products to the SLS Vehicle and to KSC Ground Operations. Provide Project Engineering support to integrate solutions to issues, facilitate integrated discussions, participate in task teams and document reviews, provide status on issues and deliverables, help maintain open communication with the SLS Level II Vehicle SE&I Operations Team.

  • Coordinate between NASA and prime contractor teams to achieve broader SE&I objectives through implementation of Lean processes and procedures.

  • Provide structured design reviews consistent with NASA and MSFC standards, tailored to avoid non-value added aspects.

  • Provide insight to contractor systems analysis and systems integration activities.

  • Develop and maintain the technical requirements for the SLS Block 1B EUS to include coordination with the remainder of the B1B/EUS Development office as well as with contractor requirements development personnel and products.

  • Coordinate planning for requirement verification activities leading to flight-certification hardware.Facilitate EUS-to-vehicle and EUS-to-architecture technical integration.

  • Develop Lean programmatic systems engineering documentation.

  • Integrate with other SLS and Engineering organizations to coordinate and obtain the necessary information to produce documents that meet the Program/Element requirements and assist in the review and approval of documents.

  • Coordinate with reviewers relative to the initial release and approval of documents as well as the necessary revisions throughout the period of performance.

  • Support the development and execution of the Element’s processes and procedures related to Systems Engineering.

  • Support the development and execution of the Block 1B/EUS Certificate of Flight Readiness products.

Here’s what you’ll need :

Degree in Engineering or related field is required. Degree from an ABET accredited university preferred. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a Ph.D., with minimum of 9 years of experience, a Masters with at least 13 years of experience, or BS with at least 15 years of experience.

The following skills/experience are required:

  • Knowledge of complex systems engineering life cycle end-to-end development ranging from requirements development, functional design, hardware integration, and requirements verification.

  • Experience developing and delivering executive level briefings, negotiation skills demonstrated through technical problem solving, and demonstrated ability to breakdown problems or issues into manageable pieces.

  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, customer relation skills, and presentation skills.

  • Self-motivated, effective team players, familiar with working in a dynamic work environment.

  • Demonstrated experience in driving Lean processes and procedures in hardware/systems development.

The following skills/experience are highly desired:

  • Vehicle and ground operations experience.

  • Experience in design, development, test, and evaluation of Space Systems.

  • An understanding and knowledge of the current SLS program and a working understanding of the SLS vehicle and interfaces.

Essential Functions

Work Environment:

General office environment (100%). Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (<15%).

Physical Requirements:

Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and Jacobs’ facilities (10%).

Equipment and Machines:

Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).

Attendance:

Regular attendance is a necessity to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.

Other Essential Functions:

The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
