Our highly skilled staff also performs the full suite of environmental impact assessment, permitting, natural and biological resource assessments, and water resources and related engineering and infrastructure services.

Job Summary:

JMT is seeking a skilled professional with experience in Ecological Restoration including the design of streams, wetlands and other natural habitats / ecosystems and related services. Emphasis is on Mid-Atlantic projects with ability and desire to also work on projects across JMT’s entire footprint. The ideal candidate would have experience assessing, designing, and assisting Project Engineers and Managers with key regional clients as well as other local, state, and Federal clients. The ability and desire to grow and manage technical capabilities and collaborate with other technical experts in our core natural and water resource business units throughout JMT is highly desirable.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Stream / Wetland assessment and design

  • Hydrologic Modeling experience using TR55 / TR20 and Rational Methodologies

  • Hydraulic Modeling experience using HEC-RAS

  • Stream Survey and Assessment including operating laser level survey equipment and sediment sampling procedures

  • Perform alternative studies

  • Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects

  • Perform design computations

  • Develop construction cost estimates

  • Assist in the preparation of engineering documents for advertisement and construction

  • Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality

Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Required SkillsRequired Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, environmental science or a related field

  • 4-7 years of experience supporting ecological restoration projects

  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team with strong communication and coordination skills

  • Stream / Wetland assessment and design

  • Wetland Delineations, Forest Stand Delineations, and Geomorphic Stream Surveys

  • Microstation and/or AutoCAD drafting experience

  • ArcGIS mapping / exhibit preparation experience

  • Contract Document preparation including Plans, Specifications and Cost Estimates

  • Experience preparing Alternative Compliance Applications (ACA), Joint Permit Applications (JPA), Critical Issues Analysis (CIA), Environmental Assessments (EA), and Environmental Impact Statements (EIS)

  • Ability to perform field work (natural resources monitoring) including lifting 50 lbs.

  • Ability to travel within the Mid-Atlantic Region

Preferred Experience

  • EIT, PE or an advanced degree / certification

  • Experience working in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, Delaware, and Virginia

  • Ability to present at public events (meetings, conferences, etc.)

  • Rogen Training Course Certification or equivalent advanced stream restoration course work

  • Hydrologic and Hydraulic Modeling experience

  • Stormwater Management design experience

  • Erosion and Sediment Control design experience

  • Construction Management / Oversight experience

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment 90% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25lbs) may be required as needed. Travel will be required.
