Houston Methodist Public Safety Services Rep - FT/Days - Medical Center in Houston, Texas

At Houston Methodist, the Public Safety Services Representative position is responsible for providing customer service support for the Public Safety/Security department through the creation and issuance of ID badges and access clearances. This position monitors and validates access/badge requests and provides access as appropriate. The Public Safety Services Representative position provides other service related duties such as: maintaining equipment and supplies related to the badge creation and assisting security services, as needed. This position ensures the ability to check out keys from the electronic key system by supporting customers to self enroll.

  • Actively and effectively communicates and reports pertinent security services information and data in a comprehensive manner.

  • Responds positively to requests for assistance from customers, employees and visitors, using clear and professional communication to facilitate problem resolution.

SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Performs ID badge functions for various entities in the organization, including taking photographs, creating badges and assigning appropriate clearances and credentials.

  • Issues badges to contractors/vendors, clinical students, residents and administers appropriate access cards.

QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Tracks and processes access requests from various departments and works closely with management to identify and assign appropriate clearance levels for individuals. Removes terminated employee access from the system, as needed.

  • Reviews and maintains access forms for each applicable access request.

  • Maintains equipment, supplies and machines related to badge creation process; coordinates repairs and ordering of supplies as necessary.

FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Self-motivated to independently manage time effectively and prioritize daily tasks. Uses inventory and resources effectively and efficiently, does not waste supplies.

  • Utilizes and maintains HM and department equipment according to manufacturer specifications.

  • Prevents loss and damage by reporting irregularities, informing violators of policy and procedures.

GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Generates and communicates new ideas and suggestions that improve quality or services within the department.

  • Assumes responsibility for self-growth and development by participating in special projects within the Public Safety/Services department and/or across Houston Methodist (e.g. Academy Medicine Education (GME), Labor Works programs, etc.) as appropriate.

  • Implements actions that promote a workplace safety culture and proactively prevents workplace violence.

EDUCATION

  • High School diploma or equivalent education (examples include: GED, verification of homeschool equivalency, partial or full completion of post-secondary education, etc.)

  • Associate's degree preferred

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Two years of security experience

  • One year performing related clerical/administrative functions preferred

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS - REQUIRED

  • DL - Driver License - State Licensure within 90 days AND

  • NVCRISIS - Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) within 60 days AND

  • SECUR-N - Security Officer Non-Commissioned- State Licensure within 14 days

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations

  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security

  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles

  • Must possess strong customer service skills and professionally communicate and interact with staff and visitors

  • Proficient computer skills, including but not limited to, Microsoft Office software including PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Webmail

  • Ability to understand and work with technical security systems, hardware and software

  • Must be able to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and function calmly in stressful situations, including handling of, or exposure to confidential/sensitive information

  • Demonstrates the ability to access information both in the department and within the hospital system to support the department as appropriate
