PURPOSE OF DIVISION The purpose of Houston Airport System (HAS) Maintenance, General Maintenance Services Business Unit it is to effectively deliver self-performed maintenance services at each of the three HAS airports.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The purpose of the Electrician is to troubleshoot, maintain, manage, and upgrade existing electromechanical systems to ensure an economical and safe distribution of electricity. This position performs journeyman level electrical work by maintaining the terminal and various support buildings electrical distribution equipment, lighting systems, and various electrical devices on a daily basis in accordance with NEC, NFPA, and FAA Advisory Circulars. This role acts as a first responder to emergency calls for various types of electrical failures and shutdowns. Responds to trouble calls involving troubleshooting of circuits, tripped breakers, overloaded circuits and repairs or replacement of system components. Manages Airside and landside lighting for terminals, surrounding buildings, street pole lights and airfield lighting systems. This position may be assigned duties at all Houston Airport System facilities including IAH, HOU, and EFD.

"Must be able to pass a criminal background check, obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearances where required. Candidates must be able to obtain all security required badge access including Custom Border Patrol access within 6 months from the hire date.

The

Electrician

responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • The ability to interpret blueprints, sketches, schematics, and design specifications.
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Codes and experience with electrical tools, meters, and materials and their uses in a commercial setting.
  • Experience in high voltage (15 KV), primary distribution and emergency generators, and commercial/industrial experience including control systems, preventative maintenance programs, UPS, and PLC.
  • Troubleshoots, maintains, manages and upgrades existing electromechanical, electrical, and electronic installations and systems.
  • Researches and analyzes causes of failures. Repairs, replaces, and installs new equipment/components and related hardware to maximize function ability.
  • Provides preventive maintenance ensuring safe and clean operating conditions.
  • Prepares and updates various records, logs and reports related to the work being performed.
  • Responds to emergency calls for various types of electrical failures and shutdowns.
  • Organizes, schedules and monitors work assignments.
  • Research technical product specifications.
  • Compares and evaluates product prices from vendors to determine most competitive bid.
  • Assists in the inventory control management of electrical parts and components to provide appropriate supply levels.

WORK ENVIRONMENT The position involves considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy objects (up to 80 pounds) on a highly frequent basis and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time. There are occasional exposures to extreme levels of temperature, air pollution, noise pollution, chemical gases, and substances, and/or contagious diseases or physical trauma conditions of a short-term disabling nature, such as broken bones or temporary loss of sight or hearing. Requires the ability to make closely coordinated eye/hand movements within very fine tolerance and/or calibration demands; or the ability to make rapid closely coordinated eye/hand movements on a patterned response space within somewhat fine tolerance demands; or the ability to make coordinated eye/hand movements within fine tolerances with large equipment as an extension of the worker.

MINIMU REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION Requires a

High School degree or a GED certificate.Requires successful completion of an apprentice electrician program approved by the

Bureau of Apprenticeship and Trainingor the equivalent as recognized by the

Electrical Safety and Licensing Advisory Board.

EXPERIENCE No journey level experience is required.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE

A valid State of Texas Journeyman Electrician License is required. Must have a valid Texas drivers license and comply with the City of Houstons policy on driving. May require a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

PREFERENCES

Preference will be given to applicants who have:

  • A Journeyman Electrician License for 5+ years.
  • Knowledge of airfield lighting materials and applications is a plus.
  • *A valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL). *

    Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.

Pay Grade - 18

SALARY INFORMATION Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
