Grand County Paramedic in Hot Sulphur Springs, Colorado

JOB SUMMARY This position is responsible for administering advanced life support care to sick and injured persons in pre-hospital settings.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Demonstrates a professional demeanor, pride, and confidence at all times. Responds to instructions from emergency medical dispatcher and monitors communication contacts. Checks ambulances to ensure readiness; inspects vehicles mechanical condition, emergency medical equipment, medications, and supplies, insures these are operational and ready. Maintains station, vehicle, and equipment cleanliness and preparedness. Assesses nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed or need for additional assistance. Administers prescribed Basic, Intermediate, Advanced Life Support, and / or Critical Care support treatment at site of emergency, or in ambulance. Initiates intravenous fluids to administer medications, or to replace fluids lacking in body. Administers advanced airway management, medications, and Electrocardiograph interpretation and therapy as needed according to approved GCEMS protocols. Assists in controlling crowds, securing scene safety, extricating victims, protecting valuables, and other duties at scene of catastrophe. Provides patient care for inter-facility transports. Assists treatment center admitting personnel to obtain and record information related to patient's vital statistics and circumstances of emergencies. Completes all paperwork per standard operating procedures as soon as possible and prior to end of shift. Participates in orientation of new employees and ongoing development and mentoring of GCEMS staff. Responds to request for CQI request, Command Staff, and Medical Director questions. Observes, records, and reports to Physician patient's condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents. Communicates with professional medical personnel at emergency treatment facility to obtain instructions regarding further treatment and to arrange for reception of victims at treatment facility. Attends training and department meetings when required. Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Pay range: $65,182.56 - $87,599.91 annual (hiring rate DOQE) **Eligible for hiring incentive pay in the amount of $5,000.00 ($2500 paid after 6 months in position, $2500 paid after 2 years in position)

Qualifications High school diploma or general education diploma (GED); and one (1) year of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. An Associate s Degree in Emergency Medical Services is preferred. Possession of a valid, State of Colorado driver s license. Requirement exists at the time of hire and as a condition of continued employment. Paramedic Certification, from National Registry of EMTs and Colorado Department of Health required. BLS, ACLS, PALS certifications required. ICS 100, 200, 700, 800 required at time of hire. The employee is required to travel extensively with some trips to locations outside of the County that may require overnight stays. Approximately 4-6 in-state training sessions/meetings are attended per year.
