City of Hot Springs, Arkansas

TITLE: Truck Driver

DEPARTMENT: Public Works / Street

PAY GRADE: 10

FLSA: Nonexempt

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

General Statement of Duties

Performs skilled work relative to the operation of specialized maintenance and construction

equipment.

Supervision Received

Street/Urban Forestry Field Supervisor.

Supervision Exercised

None

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Drives, loads and operates Dump Trucks, Asphalt Truck and Boom Mower. Also drives and operates

various heavy, medium and light duty trucks; drives snowplows and salt/sand spreaders when

needed; Uses various hand held tools and mechanized hand held equipment. Performs duties as

assigned (concrete work, asphalt work etc.). Inspects equipment/truck and makes minor adjustments

or refers to Fleet Services for service. First responder in inclimate weather. Will be flexible in work

schedule and subject to after hour call outs.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Working knowledge of the operation, maintenance and use of specialized maintenance and

construction equipment; working knowledge of the traffic laws and setting up work zones,

ordinances and regulations involved in equipment operation; working knowledge of the

occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary in the operation of

equipment; some knowledge of the geography of the city; skill in the operation of a variety of

types of specialized maintenance and construction equipment; ability to establish and maintain

effective working relationships; ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions;

ability to perform strenuous work under varying weather conditions.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience

At least three years in the operation of construction and maintenance equipment.

Substitution

Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements

Must possess a valid Arkansas CDL Class A and a clean driving record.

lift up to 70 pounds, ability to taste and smell.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud; works in high precarious places and near moving

vibration.
