DESCRIPTION OF WORK

General Statement of Duties

Performs a variety of responsible semi-skilled to skilled duties relative to the operation and

maintenance of a municipal airport.

Supervision Received

Works under general supervision of an administrative superior.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Moves aircraft in and out of hangars and on ramp areas using hand and motor-drive tugs; parks, fuels and ties

down/chocks aircraft; cleans windshields and airs tires on aircraft; de-ices aircraft when needed; assists

customers with catering, car rentals, hotels, taxis, etc; operates UNICOM to give airport advisories; issues and

cancels NOTAMS; inspects runways and taxiways and reports any lights out; refills fuel trucks, takes

readings on trucks and tanks and completes fuel storage inspection reports; takes scheduled inventory of fuel

and oil; sumps fuel trucks and jet storage tanks; inspects, airs tires and washes airport vehicles and equipment;

mows, weed-eats and applies herbicides to turf areas; picks up trash/litter around assigned areas; answers

telephone and responds to inquiries, refers callers and/or takes messages; processes credit, charge and cash

payments, balances cash drawer and prepares related reports; cleans office and hangar areas; inspects, cleans

and replenishes supplies in restrooms; performs related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Working knowledge of municipal airport operations; working knowledge of aircraft fueling

requirements and basic operation; working knowledge of grounds maintenance; working knowledge

of janitorial equipment, supplies and practices; working knowledge of the occupational hazards and

safety precautions associated with the aviation industry; skill in the operation of various equipment,

including fuel trucks, mowers, bush-hogs and tugs; ability to establish and maintain effective working

relationships; ability to effectively greet customers and assist with their needs; ability to understand

and follow complex oral and written instructions; ability to work independently and to make sound

decisions relative to the work; ability to maneuver aircraft in confined areas by use of tugs; ability to

detect and correct or refer to proper authority any operating deficiencies in equipment; ability to

maintain accurate records and to prepare reports; ability to operate a fuel truck with standard

transmission; ability to climb ladders.

Education

High school graduation or equivalent.

Experience

At least one year of responsible experience in the aviation field; at least six months in building and

grounds maintenance and in work involving public contact.

Substitution

Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements

Must possess a valid drivers license and a clean driving record; may be required to be a licensed

herbicide applicator.

The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud; works near moving mechanical parts, in high,
