Description

Summary:

The Corporate Outpatient Coding Education Trainer is an important member of the Nuvance Health team. The Coding Education Trainer is responsible for the outpatient and ambulatory design, development, and execution of training curriculum to support our internal teams’ training needs in relation to the operation of the coding criteria, guidelines, and quality.

Responsibilities:

  1. Develop curriculum and all supportive learning management training materials to enhance teaching sessions.

  2. Conducts needs assessment to identify performance gaps and implements best training practices to ensure alignment with department needs

  3. Develop paper/electronic training material for internal needs

  4. Interpret guidelines regarding CMS, Medicare, state, and other coding related healthcare legislation to stay abreast of training and curriculum needs

  5. Lead training sessions with Team Members to ensure accurate coding assignment

  6. Assist teams with focus reviews for ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 code assignment

  7. Accurately apply diagnosis and procedure codes utilizing ICD-10-CM, CPT®, and HCPCS .

  8. Serve as the subject matter expert in Evaluation and Management (E/M) coding along with additional ancillary services.

  9. Create and develop reports to identify training needs/outcomes

  10. Develop policies to reflect changes and guidelines from CMS, AMA, new codes, and communicate to staff and vendor partners

  11. Deliver training to providers and clinical documentation improvement specialists and coders as needed

  12. Assists in aspects of logistics surrounding training programs, ensuring rooms and materials are available for training sessions

  13. Become familiar with, and stay abreast of, new training methodologies and resources

  14. Interpret coding guidelines for accurate code assignment

  15. Identify the importance of documentation on code assignment and the subsequent reimbursement impact

  16. Align conduct with AAPC and/or AHIMA’s Standards of Ethical Coding and the Company’s Code of Ethics and Business Conduct and support the Company’s Ethics and Compliance Program

  17. Comply with all internal policies and procedures

  18. Actively participate in Nuvance Health System provider training and education

  19. Ensure individual compliance with all privacy and security rules and regulations and commit to the protection of all Nuvance Health System confidential information, including but not limited to, Personal Health Information

Other Information:

  • 5 Years demonstrated coding experience in appropriate application of coding and documentation guidelines

  • AHIMA or AAPC credential required (CPC, COC, CCS, RHIT, RHIA, CPMA or CCS-P certification). Specialized training in medical terminology, ICD-10-CM/CPT and E&M coding.

  • Prior experience auditing in E&M Leveling facility and professional

  • Prior teaching/instructing experience in a healthcare settingg
