BUSINESS UNIT DESCRIPTION

Corporate Banking in Asia is the division within Capital Markets which is responsible for originating, and managing investment and non-investment grade lending and credit-related products for CIBC Capital Market’s corporate clients in specific industry sectors (namely infrastructure, energy, power & utilities, mining/natural resources and selected diversified industries) and specific regions

JOB PURPOSE

Reporting to the Managing Director, Head of Corporate Banking Asia, the successful candidate will provide credit analysis, documentation and transactional support within Corporate Banking and assists with managing existing credit relationships with CB HKs clients. This necessitates maintaining an awareness of the client, company, industry, regulatory issues, relevant economic/political trends and client needs as well as tailoring coverage and financing solutions to meet client needs.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Conducts credit and financial analysis, both for existing clients and on new financing opportunities

  • Researches and analyses information and drafts credit proposals

  • Assists in analyzing, structuring, negotiating, and documenting new loan transactions

  • Acts as liaison with officers of Operations, Settlement, Financial Control, Technology, Legal, and Compliance and Corporate Banking Business Management group

  • Liaises with other units of CIBC, including Risk Management in preparing credit reviews and proposals for clients’ financing needs

  • Involved in liaison with existing relationships with CB HK’s clients, as well as potential clients

  • Is responsible for day-to-day management of credit files, including annual reviews, monthly and ad hoc updates required. Ensures that CIBC’s lending activities with local clients align with CIBC’s AML/KYC due diligence process.

  • Works with the Director to ensure the KYC and AML procedures for new account opening and periodic review of existing account management compliance.

  • Supports the Director to develop new client relationships to generate loan commitments

COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • As an employee of CIBC, the incumbent must comply with all applicable CIBC and Line of Business policies, standards, guidelines and controls as well as confidentiality

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Bachelors degree in Business, C.P.A. or C.F.A.; at least 3 years previous corporate finance/corporate lending experience is preferred

  • Excellent analytical ability including demonstrated knowledge of valuation techniques and practices, including cash flow analysis

  • Ability to work well in a team environment

  • Thorough understanding of Corporate Finance theories and practices, well-developed financial analysis skills, including financial modeling capability using Excel

  • Excellent understanding of financial statements and accounting principles

  • Well-developed organizational skills in order to respond to shifting priorities on several simultaneous projects

  • Demonstrated job commitment including a willingness to work extended hours and personal flexibility and adaptability in order to meet client and organizational requirements

  • Develop financial models to assist in structuring transactions and perform sensitivity analysis

  • Basic understanding of derivative products for cross-selling opportunities

  • Written and spoken fluency in English is a must, Mandarin and Cantonese preferred

  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, oral and written communication skills in order to convey factual and conceptual information to others and promote the interests of CIBC
