Manulife Actuarial Analyst/Specialist in Hong Kong, Hong Kong

This pivotal role plays a crucial part in delivering accurate and timely financial and management reporting results for key external and internal stakeholders, while also uncovering valuable business insights to drive our financial success. The successful candidate will join a team of professional and energetic actuaries / actuarial students to deliver IFRS 17 reporting and business forecasting requirements, as well as enhancing efficiency and effectiveness of these financial results production processes, harnessing technology and collaborating extensively with various internal parties. From time to time, members of the team may also have the opportunity to contribute to projects in the wider reporting team, such as support to Embedded Value / NBV Reporting under HKRBC basis.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Work with a team of actuarial students / junior actuaries to deliver IFRS 17 reporting requirements, including but not limited to reserves, Drivers of Earnings analysis, Contractual Service Margin (CSM) and New Business CSM analysis, and other Group requirements for the assigned lines of businesses.

  • Cooperate with other teams under the Hong Kong Chief Actuary’s leadership, as well as departments of the larger Manulife IFRS 17 community (such as the Valuation Shared Service Center, as well as Group and Regional offices), to

  • (1) maintain valuation models up to external / internal audit and control requirements,

  • (2) deliver process optimization initiatives to improve efficiency and effectiveness in financial results production, and

  • (3) assist in other IFRS 17 / related requirements to support Manulife Hong Kong’s business strategy where appropriate.

  • When given the opportunity, contribute to projects in the wider reporting team, such as support to Embedded Value / NBV Reporting under HKRBC basis.

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree holder with reasonable progress towards attainment of professional actuarial qualifications.

  • Solid actuarial knowledge and experience in valuation, financial reporting, and/or product pricing. Experience in IFRS 17 in / for a direct life insurer is a plus.

  • 0-3 years of relevant working experience in insurance industry.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to work with complex financial issues and concepts, paying attention to details.

  • Strong technical/modeling skills, knowledge or experience in Microsoft Access, VBA, Python, PowerBI, Qlik and/or AXIS is an asset

  • Both an effective individual contributor and team player, and able to deliver results under pressure and deadlines.

  • Good communication and relationship skills.

  • Effective command of English, both spoken and written.

  • Candidates considering the role of Actuarial Manager should also possess leadership, project / stakeholder management and coordination skills, as well as willing and able to lead, encourage, support and develop more junior colleagues.
