GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking a Project Environmental Specialist 2 with proven experience in the application of environmental regulations as they apply to underground storage tank corrective action and voluntary site remediation to work out of our Pittsburgh (Waterfront) office. Under the direct supervision of a Geologist/ Hydrogeologist Manager, the successful candidate will oversee and complete storage tank compliance operations, site investigations, environmental due diligence assessments, environmental sampling and monitoring, site remediation, and regulatory compliance evaluations and reporting. Responsibilities: Review and evaluate compliance for storage tank facilities, including storage tank system monitoring and oversee and complete the Corrective Action Process (CAP). Perform Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments (ESA), Site Characterizations, and Remedial Investigations in accordance with the most recent ASTM standards and states' voluntary remediation program. Plan and conduct environmental media investigations and sampling activities (soil, groundwater, surface water, etc.), oversight of soil and bedrock drilling and sampling including monitoring well design, installation and groundwater sampling, and complete waste classification and clean fill determinations, waste disposal. Interpretation of groundwater elevation data, soil and groundwater quality data, and design and conducting aquifer tests (slug tests and pump tests) with associated data processing and interpretation. Plan and conduct soil vapor and indoor air investigations including data evaluation and modeling. Prepare Remedial Action Plans, Remedial Action Progress Reports and Remedial Action Completion Reports in accordance with the Corrective Action Independent production of multi-media Sampling Plans/Quality Assurance Plans, Health and Safety Plans, Site Characterization Reports, Remedial Investigation Reports, and Final Reports in accordance with state voluntary remediation and brownfield Field investigations (e.g., monitoring and sampling) and remediation activities involving domestic travel may be. Develop technical specifications for written proposals to clients for approval by senior level professionals and serve as project team member and participate in meetings and communications with client pertaining to specific projects/tasks. Preferred Qualifications: Proven experience in storage tank compliance and regulations, with knowledge of storage tank systems and monitoring systems (Veeder-Root systems and electronics diagnostics). PA-certified tank remover license and/or PA Facility Operations Inspections (FOI) certification a Groundwater flow/fate and transport modeling using numerical modeling. Experience with successful site remediation (soil and groundwater) system selection, design, and implementation, preferably for petroleum release response and 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification General Characteristics Shows progress in critical thinking skills, works on small projects or portions of larger projects. Assist Task Managers with aspects of projects. Proactively implements Quality Management System (QMS) for project deliverables. If assigned as direct supervisor, skilled at mentoring, Decision making, and conflict resolution. Delegate tasks effectively. Demonstrate responsibility and leadership skills. Minimum Years of Experience 6+ Years Experience Education Bachelor's degree in environmental sciences or similar field of study Certification/ Licensure Drivers License Technical Responsibilities Shows progress towards leading field studies and data collection. Generates well written, technically sound documents with little assistance from senior staff and requiring minor edits. Agency interface, Data analysis and interpretation. Acquires ability to research Federal, State, and local applicable environmental regulations and guidance and applies th m to project specifics. Extensive knowledge of wetland delineations, wetland restoration and wetland design, ecological field surveys, endangered species surveys (understand the requirements of the endangered species act, understand when and how to consult with these agencies, and have working knowledge of the species within the area we work), and duties as required. May become specialized within a specific discipline; receives technical training for career enhancement. If assigned as direct supervisor manage and lead employees; Mentor and motivate; Communicate (including listening); Be available to employees; regular performance feedback; Enforce GAI policy and disseminate internal announcements; Foster teamwork and provide regular overall feedback to staff members. Project and Task Management Works as a part of a team and coordinates work with others. Assists in determining schedule and budget requirements. Management, Supervision, and Guidance Assigning and overseeing tasks under the direct supervision of the task manager and maintaining budgets and schedules. Keeping very close communication with Task Managers. Assisting Project Managers or Task Manager with proposal preparation; scopes of work and project component cost estimates. Guidance and oversight from Task Managers and Project Managers. If assigned as a direct supervisor receives guidance and oversight from Business Managers and/or experts in specific environmental areas. Communication, Teamwork, and Leadership Possess effective oral and written communication skills. interacts well with other staffs, clients with close oversight, Project Managers, and various Department Managerial Staff. Performs well with client communications. If assigned as direct supervisor, communication (focusing on listening) skills; interacts with employees and various managerial staff regarding employee performance, hiring, coordination with HR on performance issues of staff, merit increases, etc.; Keep employees informed of company news and policy changes.
