University Of Denver Assistant Superintendent, Golf Course in Highlands Ranch, Colorado

University of Denver Golf Club at Highlands Ranch is an 18-hole, semi-private golf club featuring a Hale Irwin designed championship golf course. The course, which opened in 1998, features a great variety of immaculately groomed holes. The 7,179 yard, par 72 layout boasts expansive bentgrass greens that many say are the best in the region. The University of Denver Golf Club is a part of the Division of Athletics & Recreation of the University of Denver.

The University of Denver has a proud athletic tradition that compliments the schools academic endeavors. In its history, DU has won 32 national championships and enables student-athletes to compete on 17 Division 1 teams. The Pioneers pursue championships, excel academically, and represent both the University and their respective conferences to the best of their abilities.

Position Summary

The golf course Assistant Superintendent assists the superintendent with the responsibilities of managing and maintaining properties to include; the golf course, practice area, club house grounds and landscaping, on course restrooms, open space and unused areas, etc. Assist the superintendent to supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization or workers and equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Assists in planning, laying out and supervising of the maintenance of the golf course, tees, fairways, greens, the seeding and maintenance for the golf course, planting, cultivating, pruning, caring for plants, shrubs and trees; the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage controls and irrigation systems, including wells, pumps, and automated
  • Assists in the scheduling and routing of personnel and equipment to accomplish daily work. Inspects the golf course property and related areas to evaluate how well management standards are being achieved and to effect changes in management programs.
  • Enforces safety standards and regulations and instructs and trains employees in the proper handling and application of chemicals to ensure the safety of the public, employees, wildlife and property. Required Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of the maintenance of the golf course, tees, fairways, greens, the seeding and maintenance for the golf course, planting, cultivating, pruning, caring for plants, shrubs and trees; the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage controls and irrigation systems, including wells, pumps, and automated controls

  • Ability to supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization or workers and equipment; prepare concise reports; maintain effective employee and public relations
  • Requires knowledge of safe, efficient mechanical operation of tractors and other motorized equipment; mechanical aptitude, and ability to follow oral and written directions. Preferred Qualifications

  • 1-3 years experience as a Golf Course Assistant Superintendent and 2-5 years golf course experience

  • Turf Degree Management Degree
  • Chemical Applicators License Working Environment

An employee in this job is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions, occasionally exposed to wet and/or cold conditions. The noise level in the work environment may be loud.

Physical Activities

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to hold or feel, reach with hands and arms, walk, talk, smell and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, sit, climb, balance, stoop, crouch and crawl. Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, and depth perception. The employee regularly lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 100 pounds.

Work Schedule Monday - Sunday, must be a ailable to work weekends.

Salary Grade Number: The salary grade for the position is 9.

Salary Range: The salary range for this position is $60,000-$65,000

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity
