Idea Entity Systems Administrator in Herndon, Virginia

Idea Entity, a Microsoft Gold Partner, is seeking a highly motivated Systems Administrator to maintain and troubleshoot our network and systems. The successful candidate has had exposure to Systems Administration and has prior hands-on experience configuring, administrating, supporting, and maintaining systems. This role has the responsibility to set up development and test environments, user accounts, maintain hybrid Exchange environments, and maintain domains.

This role is a full-time role, operating on a hybrid schedule out of our office with two (2) telework days a week and may be occasionally required to travel.

Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the day-to-day operational maintenance, support, and upgrades for operating systems, workstations, and servers.

  • Act as a System Administrator for Microsoft 365 environment including Azure AD, SharePoint Online, Exchange Online, Intune, Teams, and OneDrive for Business.

  • Maintain hybrid Microsoft Exchange and ADFS servers, firewalls, routers, and VPNs.

  • Maintain on-prem/on-cloud virtual environments for development and test environments for SharePoint, Azure DevOps server, and Kubernetes.

  • Support setting up of development and test environments in Azure and AWS.

  • Troubleshoot hardware and software errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing impact of issues.

  • Perform regular backup operations and implement appropriate processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures.

  • Perform desktop and helpdesk support efforts, making sure all desktop applications, workstations, and related equipment problems are resolved in a timely manner with limited disruptions.

  • Conduct hardware and software audits of workstations and servers to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines and support asset management operations.

  • Implement and promote standard operating procedures and schedules.

  • Follow established IT policies and procedures.

  • Other tasks or responsibilities as assigned based on business needs.

Requirements:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, System Administration, or a closely related field, or equivalent experience required.

  • One to two (1-2) years of experience in network administration (firewalls, routers, and VPNs).

  • Zero to one (0-1) years of hands-on experience in system administration in Windows server environments.

  • Zero to one (0-1) years of solid experience performing technical support and system administration activities in Microsoft 365/Azure environments.

  • Understanding of Microsoft Office 365, SharePoint, Exchange, and Active Directory.

  • Prior experience with scripting and automation tools preferred.

  • Understanding of virtualization, Hypervisor, or equivalent.

  • Capable of deploying and integrating new applications as well as learning new applications that run on various operating systems for testing and deployment

  • Strong knowledge of systems and networking software, hardware, and networking protocols.

  • Strong knowledge of best practices in helpdesk operations, IT operations, including knowledge of security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery operations.

  • Must have strong communication skills and be able to effectively communicate technical issues.

  • Must be available outside of regular business hours and business days.

Preferred:

  • Experience and knowledge of setting up environments (IaaS and PaaS) in AWS and Azure.

  • System administration and IT certifications in Linux, Microsoft, or other network related fields (Security+, CISSP, CASP, CAP, etc.).
