Job Description
Essential Duties and Tasks Cleans buildings; vacuums mops sweeps dusts furniture cleans restrooms and restroom fixtures; cleans windows shampoos carpet buffs and waxes floors. Stocks restrooms with paper products such as towels and tissue; stocks soap. Replaces light bulbs. Performs a variety of maintenance tasks such as sweeping sidewalks parking lots and porches; locks and unlocks buildings may set up rooms for meetings and move furniture. May defrost refrigerators; cleans windows and walls; may clean coffee pots and washes out trash containers. Pick up and deliver interdepartmental mail to various County buildings and departments. May clean county vehicles. Raises and lowers flags. Maintains ready stock of janitorial supplies. Additional Job Duties Performs related tasks as required. May assist with basic building repair.

Working knowledge of the methods and techniques applied in unskilled manual labor and custodial work.
Working knowledge of the standard practices; material; tools; and equipment utilized in the cleaning of buildings.
Working knowledge of standard hand tools; operation of light equipment; and materials used in assigned work.
Working knowledge of the occupational hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with assigned work.
Ability to prepare simple records of work activities.
Ability to work productively without close supervision.
Ability to respond courteously to County employees and citizens.
Ability to work cooperatively with supervisors and coworkers.
Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions.

Physical Requirements
Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing; balancing; stooping; kneeling; crouching; crawling; reaching; standing; walking; pushing; pulling; lifting; feeling; talking; hearing and repetitive motions.
Must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 50 pound of force occasionally; 20 pounds of force frequently; and 10 pounds constantly.
Must possess the visual acuity to operate light equipment such as the vacuum cleaners and small trucks in a safe manner.
Desirable Education and Experience
Ability to read and write and any combination of education and experience that produces the required knowledges; skills; and abilities listed above.
Special Requirement
May require possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license.
